Rivals for the Love of Akane or Ranma

Though they be legion, this page will attempt to provide brief overviews of the many rivals for the love of both Akane and Ranma.

Ranma's Rivals for Akane's Love

Ryoga Hibiki

Ryoga loves Akane with all of his big, dumb heart, though he has never spoken aloud of this. His horrible sense of direction leads him into no end of trouble. Ranma is his greatest enemy/rival and best friend. Having followed Ranma to China, he also fell in the Nanichiwan (Spring of the Drowned Pig) and now becomes a little black pig ("P-chan") when doused with cold water. He keeps this secret from Akane at all costs, and she sees P-chan as her pet.

Sound: Just you wait, Ranma!

Tatewaki Kuno

This Shakespeare-spouting protagonists is one of the biggest thorns in Ranma's side. Not because Akane takes upperclassman Kuno's suit seriously, but because Kuno wastes no opportunity to make himself incredibly annoying. As the undefeated star of Furinkan High's Kendo Club, Kuno calls himself "Blue Thunder." He is, incidentally, also in love with Ranma's feminine persona, not realizing they are the same person.

Sound: I am the blue thunder...

Akane's Rivals for Ranma's Love

Shampoo

Shampoo is from an Amazon tribe in China, pledged to marry the man who can defeat her in battle. Ranma is that man. Unfortunately for her, she too fell into the Nanichiwan (Spring of the Drowned Cat), and cats are the one animal of which Ranma is afraid.

Sound: Nihao!

Ukyo Kuonji

Ukyo, the opportunistic fiance, was promised that she could marry Ranma in return for some food from her father's cart. Genma subsequently stole the cart, and Ukyo vowed revenge, devoting her life to the cooking of Okonomiyaki. But when she met Ranma, she fell in love with him and opened an Okonomiyaki restaurant. She fights with her spatulas.

Kodachi Kuno

Kodachi, Kuno's sister, believes herself to be in love with Ranma. Spoiled from birth, she can see no reason in her very insane little mind why she should not have him. She is a champion gymnastics martial artist, and loses no chance to strike people with her favorite weapon, her ribbon. She is cruel, not very bright, and quite as proud as her brother; she calls herself the "black rose" and the "rising star of St. Herebeke's rhythmic gymnastics."

Sound: Kodachi's very disturbed laughter
