Adrian's Ladder

Ronnie woke up with a start. She'd had a terrible dream. She rushed to tell her husband, Adrian, all about it. She explained that in her dream, Adrian was hanging out of a window, several stories up. She was gripping his hands frantically, trying to pull him in. Adrian was begging, "Don't let me die! Please!" But Ronnie couldn't hold him any longer, and he slipped out of her hands and fell to his death. Adrian comforted Ronnie after she had related the dream to him, but afterwards the two of them went about their day as normal.

Later in the day, while Adrian was in the garden, Ronnie left to go shopping. Adrian went to enter their third story apartment, but had left his keys inside. He went and got a ladder and balanced it on an old, uneven desk under his window. Placing his hand on the first rung, he remembered his wife's dream, and decided not to climb the unstable ladder. Instead he went to his neighbour's until his wife got back home.
