A Sermon by Reverend Hollis Ray Mathis

reetings, holy children of God, in the wonderful name of our lord and saviour Jesus, the Christ. The sermon subject for today is:

The Authority Under Christ

Millions of peoples believe that the pope, the bishop of Rome is the authority under Christ. They believe that when the pope sits in his seat as pastor and teacher, as pertaining to the laws of God in faith, morals, and ethics that he is infallible. Multitudes of peoples believe that the men of their denomination are the authority under Christ. But as for me, I believe that the bible the written word of God, the Holy Scriptures, especially the king James translation, is the authority under Christ. It is my belief that we, as English speaking people, were in the dark ages, before the lord God inspired James, the king of England, to have the Holy Scriptures translated into English. Listen carefully, I believe that by the Holy Scriptures: God gives commands, demands obedience, and punishes the transgressors. I believe that the Holy Scriptures are accurate, correct, and will agree with final reality. The bible, the written word of God, is infallible. 11 timothy 3:l6 all scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.l7.that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. Beloved of God, remember this: no system of law could be effective if it allowed ignorance to be a valid defense, therefore the lord demands that we study the Holy scriptures. 11 timothy 2:l5 studies to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. If any man preaches or teaches things that will not agree with the Holy Scriptures, it is because there is no light in him. Isaiah 8:l9 and when they shall say unto you seek unto them that have familiar spirits and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? For the living to the dead? To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them. Men recorded Saints of God, all scripture, but those men were inspired of God to record the words they recorded. The bible, the written word of God is actually two testaments, two wills. According to law if words are added to a testament, or taken away form a testament, the will is invalid. Therefore I say unto you think before you add to or take away from the written word of God. For the price is very high for committing this sin. The apostle John was inspired of God to record these words. Revelation 22:l8 for I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, if any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that written in this book. And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the Holy City, and from the things which are written in this book. Brothers, and sisters in Christ, if a man makes two wills and then dies it is only the last will and testament that is valid. Therefore since the death of Christ Jesus on Calvary's cross: the New Testament is in force, the Old Testament is history. Jesus Christ has said that he did not come to destroy the law, or the prophets, but to fulfill. St.Matthew 5:l7 (Jesus Christ, the creator of heaven and earth is speaking and he says) think not that I am come to destroy the law or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. When two men make an agreement, a contract: and both parties fulfill their agreement the contract is at an end, without force. A will becomes valid after the death of the testator. Hebrews 9:l6 for where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.l7.for a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth. Holy children you may wonder when did the power pass from the Old Testament. The law and the prophets were until John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness, since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and men pressed into it. St.Luke l6:l6 the law and the prophets were until John : since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man pressed into it. Little children, you may hear men say that they do not understand the bible, the Holy Scriptures. I believe that there are three ways that knowledge comes into the brain, and that is by experience, the things you do, and the things you see done. Secondly, through perception: through the senses, the things you see, hear, taste, smell, and touch. But, I believe that if you learn anything about the lord Jesus Christ it shall be through revelation. St.Matthew l6:l3 when Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying whom do men say that I the son of man am? L4.and they said, some say that thou art John the Baptist, some Elias, and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.l5.he saith unto them, but whom say ye that I am? And Simon peter answered and said, thou art the Christ, the son of the living God.l7.and Jesus answered and said unto him, blessed art thou, Simon Barjona : for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my father which is in heaven. Children of light, after the death, burial, and resurrect, of our lord, and saviour Jesus the Christ, Christ came and opened the understanding of his disciples so that they could understand the scriptures. It is my opinion that it is absolutely necessary that Jesus Christ open a persons understanding to the scriptures, otherwise the person shall never understand the scriptures. It is for this reason some highly educated men know nothing of Jesus Christ: on the other hand, there are multitudes of men, that are not highly educated that are well acquainted with the lord. St.Luke 24:45 then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures. Beloved of God, is it necessary for a child of God, that has been called to repentance, justified, glorified, baptized out of the world, and into the body of Christ, and has received the washing of regeneration, and the renewing of the Holy Ghost, is it necessary for him to attend some college, or university, to study the scriptures? When the children of God receive the Holy Ghost the most brilliant teacher, this world has ever known, a teacher with infinite wisdom, knowledge, and understanding, comes to dwell within us. And, the anointing that he gives us will teach us, and bring us into all truth. 1 John 2:27 but the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him. Saints of God during the days of Daniel, the prophet, the laws of the medes, and Persians once established could not be altered. There were men in that kingdom that plotted against Daniel. And caused the king to sign into law, a decree that if any man should petition any God or man for thirty days, save king Darius: he was to be cast into the lions den. And when Daniel petitioned God, prayed to God, and the men knew it. The men assembled, and brought Daniel before king Darius. And filed charges against Daniel for transgressing the law. And even though Darius set his heart to save Daniel, he could not: for the law could not be altered. Therefore Daniel was cast into the lions den. I have said that to say this, the laws of God, the written word of God, cannot be changed, and cannot be altered. As they are today they shall be the same, when we stand before God on judgment day. Jesus Christ is speaking to the Jews in these verses of scripture. St.John l0:34 Jesus answered them, is it not written in your law, I said, ye are Gods? If he called them Gods unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken. Holy children, you may wonder why it is so important to reach a decision as to what you believe is the authority under Christ? It is to avoid damnable heresy. Also that you might be able to renounce the heretic. Heresy, lies, propaganda, half-truths, has caused many divisions in the physical church denominations: but Christ is not divided. But think on this saints of God is there one denomination, or even on church, that uses the bible as the authority under Christ. When we as children of God come together in the name of the lord Jesus Christ there is a well established procedure to follow. When I read the order of service, this is not a suggestion it is a commandment. 1 Corinthians l4:26 how is it then, brethren? When ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation, let all things be done unto edifying. If any speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course, and let one interpret. But if there be no interpreter let him keep silence in the church: and let him speak to himself, and to God. Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge. If any thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace. For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted. And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets. For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints. Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak: but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church. What came the word of God out from you? Or came it unto you only? If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the lord. But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant. Wherefore brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues. Let all things be done decently, and in order. Child of God, what so ever God commands you to do in the Holy Scriptures: do it. For you will not be held accountable for what other people do when you stand before God: but you will be held accountable for your own transgressions. When we as children of God come together there is to be singing, there is to be doctrine, there is to be men speaking in the unknown tongue, there is to be interpreting tongues, and there are to be men prophesying: but, for men and women to do as the lord commands they must be filled with the Holy Ghost. For the carnal mind, the fleshly mind, of sense and reason without the Holy Ghost, is not subject to the laws of God, neither indeed can be. In the book of Ezekiel there recorded, that the lord God brought Ezekiel, by a lock of his hair: out of the land of his captivity, into the land of Israel, to the house of God. And God showed Ezekiel all the abominations that the people were doing. And the lord God called for the men that had charge of the city to draw near. And behold six men came with their destroying weapons, and a man dressed in linen with writers inkhorn by his side. And God commanded the man with the ink horn to go through the city and mark all the men in their forehead that sigh and cry because of the abominations. And to the others God said go after him through the city, and destroy all others. They were to begin at the house of God, so they did as God commanded. Ezekiel 9:ll and behold, the man clothed with linen, which had the inkhorn by his side, reported the matter, saying I have done as thou hast commanded me. Strive all your life to do as the lord has said, so when you stand before God you can say "lord I have done as you commanded ". Listen carefully, judgment will begin at the house of God. L peter 4:l7 for the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? L8. And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear.
