A Sermon by Reverend Hollis Ray Mathis

reetings, holy children of God, in the wonderful name of our lord and saviour Jesus, the Christ. The sermon subject for today is:

Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ the Son of God, is our God, our creator, our King, the giver of our life, our redeemer, our saviour, our sustainer, our physician when we are sick, our lawyer when we are in trouble, He is our everything. without him we are nothing. . If a person learns anything about the Lord Jesus it shall be through revelation. A person cannot even call Jesus Lord except by the Holy Ghost. 1Corinthians:12:3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. Matthew:16:15He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? 16And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. 17And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. Jesus Christ is the first born of every creature. A creature is something created. Colossians:1:15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: Jesus is the only God ever formed, or ever will be formed. Isaiah:43:10Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. 11 I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour. In the beginning of creation God the Father spoke, and He shaped and formed His word in such a way that the Word of God, became the Son of God. John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. When God created Jesus Christ He created Him equal to himself. Philippians:2:6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: For any two things to be equal they must be identical. identical: Equal defined -identical in size, quantity, value, or standard Encarta ® World English Dictionary. Did Jesus have the same appearance as the Father, the same power, was he of the same substance as God the Father? Yes, Jesus was created identical to God the Father. Hebrews 6:3Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high: God by Jesus Christ created all things visible, and invisible. Ephesians:3:9And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:To give you some idea of the power that Jesus Christ possesses; Jesus created the sun, moon, and stars and placed them in space in one day. Before Jesus Christ was born of the Virgin Mary, God's children knew that God had a Son but did not know His name. Proverbs:30:4Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son's name, if thou canst tell? We are a blessed people to know the name of Jesus Christ for there is no other name given under heaven whereby men must be saved. The Apostle Peter said these words. Acts:4:10Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. 12Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. How are we saved by the name of Jesus Christ? When the Elect of God are baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, we are translated out of the world and into the Body of Christ. Acts:2:38Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Eternal life is in the Body of Christ. When we receive the Holy Ghost, the receiving of the Holy Ghost is the earnest of our inheritance. The Holy Ghost comes with the Laying on of Hands. Acts 19:6And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. When a person receives the Holy Ghost the inward man the soul comes to life, it is the soul of man that shall live in eternity; for the soul of man is renewed every day. 2Corinthians 4:16For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. 2Corinthians 4:18While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal. When God created the Lord Jesus He created Him a quickening spirit, a life giving Spirit. 1 Corinthians:15:45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. Before the foundation of the world Jesus Christ created the souls of men. God Knew us and predestinated us to be adopted into His family of faith. Ephesians 1:3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:4According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: 5Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, It was Jesus Christ that created Adam and breathed into his nostils the breath of Life, and Adam became a living soul. The Godhead is a trinity in unity, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost. When Jesus Christ created man He created man a trinity in unity Body, Soul, and Spirit. Jesus also created all mankind and placed us in Adam. Why did Jesus Christ create God's children? We where created for God's pleasure. Revelations:4:11Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. Why did God create the wicked? God created the wicked to be taken and destroyed. 2Peter:2:12But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption; When Adam transgressed the commandment of God, sin came into the world, and contaminated, polluted, made unclean all mankind, the ground, the animals, the fish, and creeping things. Because of our physical union with Adam sin was imputed unto all mankind. Romans:3:23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, When the Spirit of God departed from Adam all humanity died the Spiritual death. 1Corinthians:15:22For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. Amplified Translation 1Corinthians:15:22For just as [because of their [c]union of nature] in Adam all people die, so also [by virtue of their [d]union of nature] shall all in Christ be made alive. God allowed Israel to offer up bulls and goats for a scarifice for sin, but these sins came again into God's rememberance every year. Hebrews10:3But those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins, 4because it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. There was not a sacrifice in all the world that could take away sin. Therefore God the Father sent His only Son into the world being born of the Virgin Mary. When Christ Jesus was born of the Virgin Mary He was of two natures, both God, and Man. I believe that Jesus was God when He was born of Mary because of this scripture. Matthew: 1:23Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. I believe that Jesus when He was born of Mary was a man because of these scriptures. Hebrews:2:16For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.17 Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. Being of two natures made him of two intellects. Jesus, the Son of God, is omnipotent, all powerful, omnipresent, present everywhere, omniscience, knowing all things. But Jesus, the Son of the Virgin Mary, was taught of God. Isaiah:11:1And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: 2And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD; The word "Christ" in Greek means the anointed one. The word "Messiah" means in Hebrew the anointed one. The name Jesus Christ means that Jesus is the anointed one. There are two anointing, the physical anointing is when a man of God either pours oil upon the head of someone, or places oil upon the head of someone. There is the spiritual anointing when the Holy Spirit comes to dwell within some one. You can see both anointing when Samuel anoints David to be king of Israel. 1 Samuel:16:13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah. When was Jesus, the son of the Virgin Mary, anointed? At His baptism. Matthew 3:16And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: Why was He anointed? He was anointed The Son of God, the Son of the Virgin Mary. Matthew:3:17And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. When God the Father spoke and said "This is my beloved Son, God has forever settled the fact that Jesus the Son of the Virgin Mary is the Son of God. By word, and deed Jesus lived His life in such a way we have a standard to live by. For example how are we to act toward God? Luke:10:27 And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. How are we to act toward all mankind? Matthew7:12Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets. Jesus Taught us, the Elect of God, what we must do to be saved from the wrath to come. You must be obedient to the commandments of Christ. John:14:14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. 15 If ye love me, keep my commandments. We must repent, Luke:13:5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. You must be strong in faith. Acts 16:31And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. You must be born of water, Baptized, and born of the Holy Ghost.Galatians:3:27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 1John:5:11And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Acts 2:38Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 1Peter 3:20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. 21The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ: You must eat of the flesh, and drink of the blood of Jesus. We eat of the flesh, and drink of the blood when we partake of the Lord's Supper. John:6:53Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. You must be fruitful.John:15:1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. 2Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. You must work in the Harvest of souls.James:2:17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Confess Jesus.Romans 10:9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Must wash the feet of the saints, and allow them to wash your feet. John:13:8 Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me. What did Jesus accomplish on the cross? Hebrews:10:14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. He reconciled God and man. John 20:22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost: I heard some of God's children singing these words, "If it had not been for a place called mount Calvary, If it had not been for an old rugged cross, If it had not been for a man called Jesus, then for ever my soul would have been lost. I say how true, how true. May the Lord bless you and your family.
