A Sermon by Reverend Hollis Ray Mathis

reetings, holy children of God, in the wonderful name of our lord and saviour Jesus, the Christ. The sermon subject for today is:

Preparation for Death

Think on this;Ez:18:26When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die. 27Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive. Any born again, child of God, can remit sin. Confess your sins and receive absolution. Jn:20:22And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost: 23Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained. The sermon subject is “Preparation for Death.” The greatest preparation for death is to live a righteous life. How should a saint act toward God? Lk: 10:27And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. How should a child of God act toward men? Mat:7:12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets. Text: 2Kgs 20:1 In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And the prophet Isaiah the son of Amos came to him, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Set thine house in order; for thou shalt die, and not live. There are things that men of faith should do before they pass through the portals of death into eternity. They should call for a man of God to pray over them and anoint them with oil? The anointing with oil will sanctify them; free them from sin . Lev:8:12And he poured of the anointing oil upon Aaron's head, and anointed him, to sanctify him. A woman anointed Jesus for His burial. Mk:14:3And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head. Jesus said these words. Mk:14:8.She hath done what she could: she is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying. Ointment defined- greasy soothing or softening substance: The Death Angel has a very particular time he will visit you, sometimes he gives notice, and sometime there is no notice. A person must be prepared if he plans on making heaven his eternal home. Compared to eternity, life is short, as a vapor. Heb:9:27And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: The Holy Bible is actually two wills, the Old Testament, and the New Testament. If a man makes two wills and then dies, it is only the Last Will and Testament that is valid. Therefore, since the death of Christ Jesus on Calvary’s Cross the New Testament is valid, the Old Testament is history, and prophesies. The Old Testament lost its power to save when John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness. Lk:16:16The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it. When a man makes a Will he can specify certain acts his heirs must do to inherit, and certain acts his heirs must not do to inherit. Let me make this very clear “It is going to be very difficult to get into heaven.” 1Pt:4:18And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? Only a few from here and there until when we get to heaven we will see a great multitude, from all generations. Dan:7:9 I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire. 10A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened. Careful what you say, and what you do, for your words, and deeds are being recorded. Eccl:12:14For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil. Here are the acts a person must do to be heir, and joint heir, with the Lord Jesus in the kingdom of God. To inherit the elect of God must repent, turn from doing their own will to doing the will of God, and be sorry for the transgressions of God’s law that they have previously done.Lk:13:5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. Amplified Bible:Lk:13:5 I tell you, No; but unless you repent ([a]change your mind for the better and heartily amend your ways, with abhorrence {strong disapproval} of your past sins), you will all likewise perish and be lost [b]eternally. To make heaven your eternal home you must be strong in faith. Acts:16:31And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. You must confess the Lord Jesus Rom:10:9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. God requires His saints to be perfectly righteous to inherit. Mat:5:48Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. We become perfectly righteous by faith in Christ Jesus for our salvation, and faith in the blood Jesus shed on Calvary for our redemption. When we, the elect, place our faith in Jesus for salvation, and place our faith in the blood he shed on Calvary for our redemption God allows us to declare the righteousness of Jesus Christ; which is a perfect righteousness for the remission of sins past. Rom:3:24Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 25Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; 26To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. To make heaven our eternal home we must be born of water, baptized, and born of the Holy Ghost. When we, the elect of God are baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, our sins are washed away, and we come into the promise that we shall receive the Holy Ghost. Acts:2:38Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. When we are baptized in the name of Jesus Christ; we are translated out of the world, and into the Body of Christ. Gal:3:27For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. Eternal life is in the Body of Christ. 1Jn:5:11And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Except a man be born of water, and the Holy Ghost, he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God. Jn:3:5Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. What is the Kingdom of God? Rom:14:17 For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. When a person receives the Holy Ghost, the inward man, the soul comes to life. 2Cor:5:17Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. There are two complete men, in the human being. The outward man of flesh, and blood, and the inward man the soul. The inner man the soul is that part of man that shall live in eternity for the inner man is renew day by day. 2Cor:4:16For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. To live eternally, we as saints of God must eat of the flesh, and drink of the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. Jn:6:53Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. 54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. 55For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. We eat of the flesh of Jesus Christ, and drink of His blood when we partake of the Lord’s Supper. Mat:26:26And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. 27And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; 28For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. If we, the elect of God, do not eat of the Body of Christ, and drink of His blood in the world to come we will have no life in us. We, that are planning to make Heaven our eternal home, must wash the feet of the saints and allow them to wash our feet. Jn:13:6Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet? 7Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter. 8Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me. 9Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head. 10Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all. Whit defined- the smallest amount. It is absolutely necessary that we, as saints of God, be fruitful Jn:15:I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. 2Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. 3Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.4Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. If a person helps to build a church, sings in the choir or in the congregation, cleans the building, mows the grass, teaches Sunday School, and someone gets saved I believe that they are fruitful as an accessory to the fact. We as soldiers in the army of God are commanded to study, and work out our own salvation. Phil:2:12Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. I do not believe any system of Law could be effective if it allowed ignorance to be a valid defense, for men when brought before a judge for some transgression would simply say that they were not aware of the law. Here are the acts that we as saints of God must not do. These are burning offenses. Rev:21:7He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. 8But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. Fearful defined- .Causing or apt to cause fear 2.feeling fear, dread, apprehension, Unbelieving defined-Refusing or reluctant to believe. Synonyms: disbelieving, questioning, skeptical you must believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. Abominable defined-something that is disgusting unto God, repugnant, loathsome. Lev:18:22Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. 23Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion. Murderer defined- the crime of killing another person deliberately and not in self-defense or with any other extenuating circumstance recognized by law. Whoremongers defined- People that run houses of prostitution, pimps. Sorcerers- Men that worship the devil to receive power from him. A person who uses magic powers; a wizard. Here are the works of the flesh. If a person commits one or more of these acts they will put their soul in jeopardy. Gal:5:19Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. Adultery defined-voluntary sexual relations between a married person and somebody other than his or her spouse. Fornication-sexual intercourse between two consenting adults who are not married to each other. Uncleanness-religiously or ritually impure. Lasciviousness-inclined to lustfulness; wanton; lewd: Idolatry-the worship of idols, images, or icons. Witchcraft- 1Sam:28:7-25 (The witch at Endor) devil worship to receive supernatural powers. Saul and his sons died in battle because he visited the witch at Endor. 1Chronicals:10:13 So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to enquire of it; Hatred-intense hostility: a feeling of intense hostility towards somebody or something Variance-disagreement, to argue, debate.
