A Sermon by Reverend Hollis Ray Mathis

reetings, holy children of God, in the wonderful name of our lord and saviour Jesus, the Christ. The sermon subject for today is:

The Soul of Man

Are you aware of this prophecy. Isaiah 4:1And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us be called by thy name, to take away our reproach. The beginning of wisdom is to fear God. Why should we fear God? Mat.10:28And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. How can you recognize your brother or sister within whom the soul is alive? You can recognize the born again child of God because they will not willfully transgress the commandments of God. 1John3:8He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. 9Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. 10In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother. Faithless men cannot believe spiritual things for they cannot see them. The things you see are temporary, invisible things are eternal. 2Cor:4:18While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal. Jesus the Son of God, the Son of the Virgin Mary, showed Peter, James, and John, the inward man the soul on the Mount of Transfiguration. Mat:17:1And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, 2And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. In the world to come we, the children of God, shall shine as the sun. Mat:13:41The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; 42And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. 43Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. God is a trinity in unity, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost, when God created man He created man a trinity in unity, body, soul, and spirit. It is the spirit of man that keeps the physical man alive. James:2:26For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. It is the Holy Ghost that keeps the inward man the soul alive. After His death, burial, and resurrection, Jesus came to his disciples and breathed on them, and said receive ye the Holy Ghost. It was at this time that the disciples became whole. They had a living physical body, a living spirit, and a living soul. John:20:19Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. 20And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the LORD.21Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you. 22And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost: 23Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained. When the Elect of God are baptized in the name of Jesus Christ they come into the promise that they shall receive the Holy Ghost. Acts:2:38Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. When a child of God receives the Holy Ghost they become a new creation; a new creature. 2Cor:5:17Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. As David sang in the 23 Psalm. 3He restoreth my soul: The human body has two intellects one for the outward man, the physical body, and another for the inward man the soul. The physical man, has a carnal mind that is not subject to the laws of God. Rom:8:6For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. When the Holy Ghost comes to dwell within the soul, the anointing that He brings will teach the soul, and bring the soul into all truth. 1John:2:27But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him. The inward man the soul delights in the Laws of God. Rom:7:22For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: God created the souls of His children before the foundation of the world. God elected, selected, hand picked His children, and predestinated us to be adopted into His family of faith. Eph:1:3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: 5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will. The human body was created from the dust of the earth, but the souls of men were created from the word of God. Genesis:2:7And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. There are two complete men in the human body, the inner man the soul, and the physical man, the outward man. The outward man, the physical body, grows old usually threescore ten years, and then dies. Psalm:90:10 The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away. But the inward man the soul never grows old. 2 Cor.4:16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. When the physical body dies the soul departs from the body. Genesis:35:18And it came to pass, as her soul was in departing, (for she died) that she called his name Benoni: but his father called him Benjamin. The inward man the soul can be destroyed by sin. For example when Adam transgressed the commandment of God Adam died the spiritual death; because of all mankind’s physical union with Adam sin was imputed to all humanity, and we all died the spiritual death. It is for this reason we must be born again. John:3:5Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.6That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 1Cor:15:22For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. Amplified Translation 22For just as [because of their [a]union of nature] in Adam all people die, so also [by virtue of their [b]union of nature] shall all in Christ be made alive. Another example, if a born again Christian were to go into a woman and commit the sin of adultery, the physical man will get up, and walk away. But the inward man the soul shall be destroyed. Prov:6:32But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul. The harlot searches for the precious life. Prov:6:26 For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adultress will hunt for the precious life. Not all sins are unto death, but there are sins unto death.1John:5:17All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death. The inward man the soul can talk, and reason. Rev:6:9And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held: 10And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth? The inward man the soul can love. Mark:12:30And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. The soul has all our sensations, thoughts, feelings, and the ability to make decisions’ The soul can feel pain. Isaiah:58:5Is it such a fast that I have chosen? a day for a man to afflict his soul? is it to bow down his head as a bulrush, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? wilt thou call this a fast, and an acceptable day to the LORD? The word afflict defined-to distress, mental suffering, physical pain. There is a war that goes on in the human body between the Soul, and the Carnal mind. Rom:7:14For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin. 15For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I. 16If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good. 17Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.18For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. 19For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. 20Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me. The soul may be bought, and sold. In Babylon a person could buy, most any thing their heart desired. Rev.18:11And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more: 12The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all thyine wood, and all manner vessels of ivory, and all manner vessels of most precious wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble, 13And cinnamon, and odours, and ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men.The most precious possession a person possesses is their soul. Mat:16:26For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul.Is it possible for a man or woman to bind their soul? Be careful what you promise God. Notice these scriptures are in the Old Testament, and we are not under the Law of Moses, but you should be aware of them.Num:30:2 If a man vow a vow unto the LORD, or swear an oath to bind his soul with a bond; he shall not break his word, he shall do according to all that proceedeth out of his mouth. 3If a woman also vow a vow unto the LORD, and bind herself by a bond, being in her father's house in her youth; 4And her father hear her vow, and her bond wherewith she hath bound her soul, and her father shall hold his peace at her; then all her vows shall stand, and every bond wherewith she hath bound her soul shall stand. When a man and a woman come before a man of God to take their marriage vows, are they promising the man of God they will love, and honor, and cherish one another, or are they promising God that dwells within the man of God? I believe they are promising God. Under the Law of Moses’ if a man vowed a vow unto God and did not do as he had promised he was in lots of trouble. Ecc.5:4When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed. 5Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay. 6Suffer not thy mouth to cause thy flesh to sin; neither say thou before the angel, that it was an error: wherefore should God be angry at thy voice, and destroy the work of thine hands? This present world is just a time of trial to see where the soul shall spend eternity. A man in this present world may have land, cattle, many children, great sums of money, a fine home, multitudes of friends, but if when he stands before the Lord Jesus on Judgment Day, and the Lord says to him depart from me you cursed into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels. You know that man has been a failure in this present world.Mat:25:41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: Ecc:6:3If a man beget an hundred children, and live many years, so that the days of his years be many, and his soul be not filled with good, and also that he have no burial; I say, that an untimely birth is better than he. Before the inward man the soul if brought to life, a man cannot love. The presents of the Holy Ghost accomplishes these things in the soul. Galatians:5:22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. Lord bless every Child of God with good health, prosperity, in this world, and in the world to come eternal life.
