These are additional rules for History of the World. My web page also provides access to further History of the World material.


Map Changes

Add a land "Pacific Islands", part of Australia (which we might call "Oceania"), touching Pacific Ocean. This represents various islands in the Western Pacific, including the Philippines, Hawaii, Easter island and New Zealand.

Add a land "Canada", part of North America, touching Great Lakes and the North American barbarian zone. This represents the Hudson Bay area.

(1) Attack each start sea with a fleet at least once. Land from winning fleets as though they were supported. No land presence is required for either step. May also attack normally from land. Any unsupported fleet is eliminated at the end of the kingdom's action.

Balancing

Victory is determined on the basis of the square of the number of victory points, divided by the total army strength.

We've found this a good compromise between the standard rules (victory points) and a popular alternative (victory points divided by total army strength). Thinking of it as "victory points divided by square root of total army strength" gives a better feel for the compromise aspect.
