Mediterranea

Migration and Conquest in the Mediterranean Basin
Fifth Through Eleventh Centuries A.D.

TURN 1: from about 350 A.D.

This turn hasn't been written. Gauls, possibly led by Julian the apostate (last pagan emperor of Rome, and last emperor of both halves of Rome) defeat the invasion of Gaul by the Franks and Alemanni. Off map, the Huns destroy the vast Ostrogothic empire and conquer Hungary. Visigoths fleeing the Huns are allowed into the empire, then mistreated by local authorities, provoking a revolt. The Byzantine response is destroyed at Adrianople (Moesia), the Visigoths settle in Moesia, then shift to Macedon. Romans under Stilicho hold back invasions of Visigoths, Ostrogoths, Asding Vandals and Quadi.

TURN 2: from 405 A.D.

Siling Vandals, Asding Vandals, Quadi, Marcomanni and Alans (the last four are all Suevi in the game) cross the frozen Rhine, spread out over Gaul and pass through to Spain. The Visigoths rampage through Italy on their way to Spain, then agree to settle in southwestern Gaul. Huns are quiet, containing themselves to an occasional experimental prod into Germany or across the Danube.
