Burks Safety Patrol

Safety Patrol at Burks is made up of fifth grade volunteers. In order to be selected as a member of the Safety Patrol, students must first write an essay telling why they think they should be on the patrol. They must then have permission from their parents to serve either before school or after school and must have their transportation needs taken care of. Students work as crossing guards, car greeters, or bus/van callers. Students meet once a week with their advisor to discuss any safety concerns they have. If there are a lot of interested students, they rotate in and out of duty. All students enjoy their jobs and take the responsibility very seriously. Starting each April, students will be recruited from fourth grade to work alongside the fifth graders. These students will then be ready to start working on the first day of the next school year.
