The finding of the Alderley Edge Treasure, That is the Gold Bars is one of the Greatest Treasure finds in the United Kingdom,This site has been set up to show what the
 TV and Newspapers will not tell you....that is where the Alderley Treasure Bars where exacley found, you can now see both sides of each gold bar.
There are also two rings found at Brynlow Alderley.....But first lets go back to the year 1650, it was this year that the story of the iron gates..(qv)..started to be told.
The first written account of iron gates story and refers to gold, by the Reverend John Shrigley Rector of Neather Alderley, to whom it was related Thomas Broadhurst 1676-1776
Thomas spent most of his life in the service of the Stanley family the landowners of Alderley.the first printed version of the story appeared in the1805 edition of the Manchester Mail.
We now move on to the year 1851 General Fox Lane (Pitt Rivers) starts a search and digging at Alderley....Rumour spreads in the local people that he is searching for Gold Treasure.....
1875 William Boyd Dawkins starts searching,
1878 Doctor JD Sainter starts searching, and then there were a number of searchs up to 1947 in this year the National Trust took control
of Alderley Edge and the stage was set for two new groups of searchers they are the WORKERS  and the  ACADEMICS. First lets look at who these people are.
 ENGLISH DICTIONARY....Academic = excessively concerned with intellectual matters and lacking experience of practical affairs.
ENGLISH DICTIONARY....Worker = working in a manufacturing or other industry,a producer of goods, a member of the working class.
All the bars that have been found have been found by the workers, the searchers by the academics have produced nothing...even though they have been sponcerd by public money.

The first gold item to be found was Gold Bar No 4 found in the roots of a blown down tree on the 6th September 1961, found by a member of the Northern caving club
 this bar was given over to the police...classed as lost property finder collects in 3 months... there was no press coverage of the find, it is only with the setting up of this web site that it is brought to the publics attention, in 1989 the Bradford University and Manchester university joined together in a search near Artist Lane...they found nothing

On the 26th of February 1993 an inquest was held at Congleton, Cheshire into the find of a Gold Bar No1, the Gold Bar was found in an earth bank at the side of Artist Lane Alderley Edge,Cheshire UK.
The Gold Bar was found with the aid of a Metal detector, the unusual situation about the inquest was that it was stated exactly where the Gold Bar was found. After it was reported in the press
 on the 27th of February several people started to search areas with metal detectors in the Alderley area.

Six Gold Bars have been found at Alderley Edge, they are.

Bar 1... Has been to the British Museum for a report. and was on show to the public at the Manchester Museum .

This is the Bar on show at the Manchester museum from December 1998 to February 1999, Bar1 is from the Treasure Trove inquest at Congleton. HM Coroner for Cheshire John F Hibbert ran the Inquest, Attending the inquest as the landowner was the leading Archaeologist Adrian Tindall principal conservation officer (Archeology) Cheshire County Council. The British Museum Report read out at the inquest Stated that the bar was gold alloy content is 73% gold 14% silver and 13% copper weight of the bar is 97.01 grams. The report stated that the copper content is slightly higher Than expected for prehistoric gold!( All the gold bars were found On the edge of an ancient copper mining area) the report Was written by John Cherry British Museum.
This Gold Bar was not returned to the finder, what was returned was the pit checks and lamps of the Lancashire Mining Museum Buile Hill, the deal was done by the Manchester Museum.

Bar 2 was found under the Golden Stone north side on June 23rd 1993. The Golden Stone is near Edge House Farm Alderley Edge. The bar is composed of 76% gold 11% silver and 13% copper. Bar 2 weighs 101.20grms.
    The Bar has a Valuation of  £124000.00 the Bar is in private hands.

This Gold Bar was pinpointed by searchers organized by the NATIONAL TRUST and the MANCHESTER MUSEUM  the date is Tuesday August 2nd 1994 the people are Jeremy Miln National Trust...John Prag Manchester Museum.
Bar 3 was found at the bottom right hand side of the waterfall in waterfall wood on 9th October 1997. The bar is composed of 60% gold 10% silver 30% copper. The bar weighs 81.90 grms
The Bar has a valuation of £115000.00 the Bar was first pinpointed by Academics, the Bar is in private hands.

  • Bar 4 was found at the side of Artists Lane, Brynlow Dell on 6th September 1961 after a tree had blown down, the bar was found by a member of the Northern Caving Club Using a metal detector (land mine detector) The bar is composed of 74% gold 13% silver 13% copper. Bar 4 weighs 100.70 grms.

    Bar 5 was also found under the golden stone in 1993 near Edge House Farm. with bar 5 was also found a copper frame, it is belived that The bars weight is 97grms.

    Bar 6 was found five yards to the east of the golden stone at the same time as bars 2 and 5 June 23 1993,The bar is composed of 75% gold 13% silver 12% copper The bars weight is 100.06 grms. The size of the bar is 90 mm long and 21mm across at the narrow point. Bar 6 is taken on a map of Alderley Edge, Artists Lane runs just above the word Brynlow, Edge Ho is Edge house farm.

    Ring with Roman coin tested as 18carat Gold, coin is bronze Found in side passage of one of the Brynlow Levels...the level is the nearest to the Hough level entrance. Found in floor sand by a member of the Northern Caving Club 1963

    Ring i8ct Gold set with a massive Star Ruby size of ruby 53 carat total weight of ring 1oz, found in the floor at the end of the same passage as the roman coin ring was found....That is the long passage Found by a member of the Northern Caving Club 1963. As yet there is no relation to the gold bars being found at Alderley Edge.
