Forward to the Reader: Over the years SeventhDay Adventists have emphasized the "LAW" of God as being of extreme importance. However, we have not explained very well, HOW the Law fits with the GOSPEL. I think we have been guilty of covering up the GOOD NEWS, by developing rules to help us be good. The Gospel is supposed to be GOOD NEWS and we are to tell the whole world; after all, it was one of our Saviors last command to His followers!
How then do we combine the Law and the Gospel? And how does that fit in with the Ten Commandments, especially the Fourth one, about keeping a certain day? Many of our friends have charged us with being Legalists for keeping this day. Is it because we don’t know why we keep it except that it is part of the Ten Commandments? A question I think we can, and should, answer is; "In all the talk about Freedom in the Bible how come there is so much emphasis on Law?"
We believe that you have to study the Bible from the perspective that Satan has accused God of being: Arbitrary, Unforgiving, Demanding, Vengeful, and Severe. How do we know these are the charges made by satan? The charges are determined by looking at the "answers" that have been given in the 66 Books of the Bible; these "answers" are wrapped up in God's actions.
The GOOD NEWS is that God is not as Satan has accused Him to be! Also, since God makes such good sense everywhere else in the Bible, He also intended that the Sabbath make just as much good sense. Maybe if we take "Another Look at the Sabbath" we can find an explanation that does make good sense. There are no "Key Texts" to prove which DAY is the Seventh Day. Our purpose here is to tell the Good News about our God, which is summed up in the Sabbath. But, it might take a little while; major issues in the Bible cannot be presented or really understood by citing a few key texts and then drawing some conclusion!
