Review | La Caretta's started down the road in Hammond, LA. I had heard about how good it was from a friend who lives in Hammond. The Baton Rouge branch opened Spring 2004, and I have not been disappointed yet. The beauty of La Caretta's is generous portions of delicious food at a highly affordable price. Lunch entrees can start as low as five dollars. My three marks of a good Mexican restaurant are chimichangas, beef burritos, and salsa. The salsa is fantastic-spicy and flavorful but not too chunky. And instead of the yellow queso dip most Mexican restaurants serve, La Caretta's queso is made with white cheese and has a delightful spicy bite. The main courses are just as good. The chimichanga comes with an option for shredded beef, which I highly recommend. I have yet to hear anyone speak badly about this restaurant. The seating and parking are adequate, the food is delicious, and the price can't be beat. It is fast becoming one of my favorite places in Baton Rouge. |
