Stories for beginning readers
Welcome! Glad you made it to my beginning reading page. At this site you will find children's stories that will help your child become a better reader. These stories are written to help the emergent reader practice their reading skills through the use of phonics decoding and common site words and vocabulary that is age appropriate.
It can be difficult to find reading materials that are geared for beginning readers. Often childrens books are written to be read to the child not by the child. Purchasing lots of beginning readers can be a short lived investment as your child quickly progresses to the next reading level. Here you will find phonics-stories that can be read online or printed and assembled into book form to be read away from the computer.
As a primary school teacher I have taught hundreds of children to read. Parents often ask "How can I help my child become a better reader?" Practice is the best way to become a better reader. Research shows that "good readers" read 144 times more than "poor readers". Use the stories on this site to help your child practice their reading skills while instilling an intrinsic love of reading. Remember, the key to becoming a better reader is to practice, and have fun reading. Enjoy! : )
