I was making rounds recently when a few folks called me over to their Bible study. They were reading from Revelation and had lots of questions about the second coming of Christ. Since there are so many different voices on this subject, I thought it would be helpful to write down the most important points:
Jesus said, "It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority." (Acts 1:7) Throughout history there have been several groups that have given specific time and date predictions for Christ's coming. Christ didn't want us to be caught up in this speculation.
Jesus said, "For as lightning comes from the East and flashes to the West, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be." (Matthew 24:27) Everbody's going to know when Christ comes back. It will not be an ambiguous sign.
The Bible repeatedly teaches that, "...whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved." (Joel 2:32; Acts 2:21; Romans 10:13) Anyone who honestly seeks God and wants to be right with him will never be turned away, even at that late hour.
We are called to live in Christian faithfulness daily, so we can be prepared for Christ's arrival. (Mark 13:32-37) Jesus promises that His arrival will hit us by surprise! (v.35) He therefore challenges usto "Watch!" (v.37) and live faithfully day-to-day as we await His coming.
God Bless you.
