Needing Spiritual Sight

Jesus once said, "Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into the ditch?" (Luke 6:39).

A couple of years ago I learned the dangers of being blinded physically as I was driving back from Kansas City. A heavy rainstorm hit while I was on the interstate just past downtown. Not only was the rain blinding by itself, but the de-fogging system in my car was broken. My windshield fogged up rapidly, and I was forced to slow down and pull over. I was lucky not to have been in an accident.

Spiritual blindness can be even more destructive. The Bible often tells readers to put their trust and hope in God (e.g. Proverbs 3:5-6). But people look to other things in life to find fulfillment, such as alcohol and drugs, bad relationships, sexual promiscuity, cult groups, and other dangerous lifestyle habits. For many the problem is the people they hang around with, which often is a true case of "the blind leading the blind."

On the other hand, spiritual leadership from brothers/sisters in Christ who are srong in the Lord can bring us great blessings. As Christians grow in spiritual maturity, wisdom increases in greater abundance. This God-given vision has the power to keep us out of life's "ditches" and on the path God has set out for us.

God Bless you.
