Once Swami Vedanta desikan happened to visit the small town of srivilliputtur
during his sancharams. That day was trayodasi alongwith mahapradosham
.Swami was camping at one of the streets of Srivilliputtur(Nadagasalai
street??) and observing "mouna vratham" (Vow of silence).
That day a grand
procession carrying the processional idol of Sri Andal happened to pass through
the street. As it is the custom the procession stops in front of many houses
for the devotees to offer the prayers and offer puja materials. As it came
in front of the house where Swami Vedanta desikan was camping, the Swami on
seeing the majestic sight of Sri Andal in all her finery was overcome with
emotion and burst forth in a spontaneous poetry in a moment of divine inspiration
composing the famous 'Goda stuti',forgetting about his vow of silence. In
memory of this great work, the Goda Stuti utsavam or the vasantothsavam
is celebrated for 10 days in the month
of Vaikasi at Srivilliputtur.Sri Andal and Mannar are brought to the Vasantha
mandapam at the Nadagasalai street. There Vedapiraan Bhattar recites the
Goda stuti of Swami Vedanta Desikan
The 10 day Nammazhwar Usavam is also celebrated this month and concludes on Vaikasi Visakam -the thirunakshatram of Nammazhwar. The entire Nalairya divya prabhandam is recited during this festival. On the concluding day -vaikasi visakam, the processional idol of Swami Nammazhwar is taken around the streets and there is also mangalasasanam before all the sannidhis
