Andal and Rangamannar during the Thirukkalyanam

One of the most significant festivals The Andal Thirukkalyana Brahmotsavam is celebrated during this month and the Tirukkalyanam takes place on Panguni Uttaram commemorating the scene when Emperuman Sri Ranganathar came to Srivilliputtur and married Andal On the day of Panguni Uttaram.This is a 10 day festival starting from the dwajarohan to Rathotsavam.Prior to dwajarohanam the Mrutasangeerhanam ,angooraarpanam and senai mudhaliar purappadu is held.The Mrutasangeerhanam and Angoora arpanam take place at the thiruthuzaay mandapam(birthplace of Sri Andal).The day before dwajarohanam Sri Senai Mudhaliar goes for a procession through the streets of Srivilliputtur.On the ninth day of Panguni Uttaram the scene shifts to the thirukkalyana mandapam.

Rangamannar comes in paradesa kolam(for kasi yatrai) and sri periyazhwar father of the bride (Sri Andal) welcomes him with poorna kumbham. Then the "thengay thondrudhal" function is held. There is also the all important event which is eagerly awaited by the devotees - the "malai marrudhal". Sri Andal and Mannar come in front of each other and devotees from both the "sides" compete with each other to exchange garlands from either side.sri andal and mannar then come to the thirukkalyana medai and then some "homamas" are performed.
