Tirumukkolam, the big tank situated adjacent to the Vazhaikulam street is the theertham of the Divya desam. It is a large rectangular tank with the neeratti mandapam situated on the banks of one of its longer sides. The theppa utsavam during the masi masam takes place here.
It has already been mentioned elsewhere that
Lord Narayana appeared here to kill a demon named kalanemi. While doing so
the lord used the Sudarsana Chakra for slaying the demon. After the slaying
of the demon the Lord desired that the Chakram should be cleaned and remembered
the devis Ganga, Yamuna and saraswati. The three devis manifested themselves
at once and appearing as a single stream of three rivers cleaned the chakram
The ensuing stream after washing the chakram accumalated nearby forming
the theertham which we see today known as THIRUMUKKOLAM
When the water in the tank is at a very low level or when it is dry one
can see sudarsana bhagavan in the form of a stone at the centre of the tank bed
