Encouraged and helped convince President Lincoln to sign the
Emancipation Proclamation and free the slaves on Jan. 1, 1863,
so the Negro could and did help the Union Army fight and win the civil
war against the confederate states.
Dred &
Harriet Scott
A slave who sued for the
liberty of himself, his wife and two daughters.
For several years he saved $300.00 for his families freedom only to have
his master reject the offer. His petition for liberty was denied by the supreme court.
He and his family were freed by their owner 2 weeks later, he died one year after.
