You can find the Matamata Golf Course on Springs Road, approximately 8 kilometres from Matamata. The hills in the background of the photo on our welcome page are the Kaimai Ranges. As you can see we have impressive views of the mountain range. Right next door is the Opal Hot Springs and camping ground where a lot of our visitors stay for quick access to one of the best courses in the Waikato.

We get a lot of visitors from Auckland and other clubs north of the Bombay Hills, especially during the winter months when our free draining course remains in play even during the wettest periods.

The Matamata Golf Club has approximately 500 members and thanks to our excellent junior development programs and Honda 9 hole golf for the women we should continue to grow. Our junior members currently number over 80 with the top 30 or so competing successfully in regular club competitions.

Our junior coaches Denis and Phyllis Dugan do an excellent job teaching the younger juniors the basics of the game and the essentials of course ettiquette on a Saturday afternoon. We have learning juniors aged from 6 years old and up.

The Matamata Golf Course has been rated by the NZLGA as one of the top two courses for women in the Waikato. A recent course analysis by a leading golf course designer has lead to an improvement strategy which will see the Matamata Golf Course move rapidly up the ratings list of New Zealand golf courses.

Our 11th hole is the signature hole of the course and is one of the only holes in New Zealand to be using an up-market sand called "Classic Trap Sand" in it's bunkers instead of traditional sand bunkers. The green on this hole has been reconstructed recently and has been in play for a few months now. It is proving to be as demanding as the course designer had expected!

Matamata's "Amen Corner" consists of the 9th through to the 13th holes. If you can get through this stretch under you handicap you're well on your way to having a great round.

It also pays to be careful of our newest par 3, the 16th, aptly named "The Trap", it isn't very long but it's bite is definitely worse than it's bark!

Good luck!
