SCIENCE FACTS
Recalling a great American
On Jan. 17, 1706, scientist, publisher and philosopher Benjamin Franklin was born to a poor family in Boston.
Franklin would prove through a famous kite experiment that lightning was a form of electricity, leading to his creation of the lightning conductor. He also invented the bifocals, the glass harmonica and the Franklin stove. He developed theories of electricity, heat absorption, meteorology and ocean currents, and helped develop the first militia in 1747.
He helped draft the Declaration of Independence, was opposed to slavery and, at age 81 and in ill-health, helped formulate the compromise that led to the U.S. Constitution.
He died in 1790.

"Still, if you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed, if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not so costly, you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance for survival.
There may be a worse case.
You may have to fight when there is no chance of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves. " - Winston Churchill
