First
Week Produces
Interesting
Scores
Spring Hollow has now firmly cemented its place as the first
course on the annual schedule, despite the cool temperatures.
This year saw everyone bundled into jackets (yes, that was
it: our swings were too restricted for us to score well…) as we braved the
breeze and accumulated windburn under brilliant blue skies.
Some
of our new players in the A division showed great promise, particularly Dick
Blystone with his very nice 82. No-one else came close to touching that score,
next best being Steve Ellzy’s 91 and Grant Blair’s and Doug Perk’s 93s.
Interesting that the third and fourth best scores came players
in the B division that played in the A division last year…
So let’s swing right into the matches: Herman Ellzy hasn’t
posted a score yet, so the outcome of his match with Mike Cwiertniewicz isn’t
yet known. People who took three points were: Dick Blystone over Roy Craig, Bob
Welc over Steve Flynn, Grant Blair over Mike Brychcy, Doug Perks over Max
McHenry and Kevin Stevenson over Steve Margetich. Steve Ellzy took 2.5 from Ron
Jones and Dan Stevens took 2.5 from Roman Hrycushko.
Mike C, still waiting for his
opponent to post a score
Would
you believe the man on the front page had just scored 160? I wouldn’t, unless I
had witnessed it personally. This week, Mike Brychcy hopes to cut about 50
strokes off his round.
Putting: in the A flight, Dick Blystone rolled in 32 putts,
Steve Flynn taking 33. In the B flight, Grant Blair only required 29 putts
while Doug Perks needed 36.
Par/Birdie Points: in the A flight, Dick Blystone posted 24
and Bob Welc was next with 16. In the Bs, Grant Blair totaled 25, while Doug
Perks came next with 23.
Dick Blystone was the only person in the A flight to record
a birdie. In the B flight, Grant Blair recorded 5 pars and one birdie.
If this seems like a string of the same names over and over
again: it is. Hopefully week 2 will result in a wider range of names showing up
in the “best of” categories.
Pace of play: one group at Spring Hollow was frequently harassed
by a ranger, due to slow play. We’d rather not see this happen again, so
remember to be ready to hit as soon as your fellow competitor has hit his shot,
move quickly between shots, size up your putt while your fellow competitor is
putting and park your cart on the side of the green nearest the next tee. If
everyone follows these simple pointers, no-one in the Linksturs will get
harassed by rangers.
Remember: next gameday is May 22nd, at Mainland.
Be ready to tee off at 9:45am. Call the course at (215)-256-9548 if you require
directions.
