This overview of the Alec MONTGOMERY descendents came via
Reverend Bettye ROBERTS, daughter of Ruben and Annie MONTGOMERY.
When last in contact, she could be reached at 2015 Chemin St. Louis, St. Lazare, QC J7T 1Y2
The German maternal grandmother (BREMBER) raised Reuben. Although
I remember grandfather telling me many stories about his life with his
grandmother, I have no recollection of him ever saying any of his siblings
were raised with him. Possibly he was the youngest and after his mother
died he went to live with his grandmother.
Sometime after his father's death, he was sent to work on a farm near
Petawawa. He often spoke about having to go out on the frost-covered
pastures in his bare feet to bring in the cows.
Reuben and Annie were married in Pembroke. Since their first child
was born in NOV 1887-88, they probably aere married around 1885-86.
Possibly they could have been married in Holy Trinity Anglican Church
where Sarah Jane MONTGOMERY and John Edward MYERS
were married in 1881. RoseAnn's son, William, believed his mother had been
married in Pembroke also.
My only knowledge of their brother William is that he married a widow
Jane (Jennie) FERGUSON. I have no idea where they were married.
Supposedly, he was in mid-life when they married. They lived in
Hailebury. He may have died when I was very young or even before I
was born because I don't remember him being spoken of as if he
were alive. I do remember that Aunt Jennie died 1929 or early 30's.
Her son William FERGUSON, was the executor of her estate.
Grandpa, Reuben Charles, and Uncle Johnnie - John Edward MYERS,
went to Hailbury to dispense of her things. I remember my curiosity as I watched
Grandpan and Mother unpack a steamer trunk of lenens and silver
that had been Aunt Jennie's.
RoseAnn's son, William MACLEOD worked for the C.N.R. in Winnipeg and
Brandon, Manitoba, Canada. I am not aware of her having had other children.
I believe he was born in the 1890's. His wife's name was Addie. They had
two sons, Chesleigh who lived in Calgary, Alberta and Clarke who lived
in Winnipeg.
About 1984, while I still was living in New York City, my son Monty made
a search of the Christ Church cemetry (Anglican) in Burritt' s Rapids. He
found only one tombstone for Montgomery which contained:
MONTGOMERY, George died Mar 27, 1887 - 89 years
This information intrigues me. Could that William have been an uncle
of William, Reuben, Sarah and RoseAnn. Reuben had a son, a grandson
and great grandson with William in their names as well as RoseAnn's son,
and Sarah and John's son William. I had had only one search done at
the Kingson Anglican archives. I am going to send the money to have
further searches done to see if something more can be found.
We also question if there could be the possibility of Alec MONTGOMERY's
wife Anna or her mother, the german grandmother having been named
RENENA. It is a German name. My mother always thought her name was
Annie REUBINA after her mother and her father, but when we received her
birth certificate when she was 65, we found her name was Annie RENENA.
Reuben Charles worked at the same work as John MYERS,
his bother-in-law. He was a sectionman, a section foreman and a roadmaster.
My mother was born in Webbwood in 1893 when grandfather worked there.
As well as Northern Ontario, he supervised the laying of track in
Trios Riveres and Ste. Therese in Quebec, also Ottawa and Smith's Falls,
Ontario.
Reuben's wife Annie Barclay Pirie's family emigrated from
Scotland in the early 1870's. Her father was George Pirie.
They settled in the Pembroke, Ontario, Canada area. They
were from the ARGYLE clan.

My understanding is that their mother died when Reuben was 4 years old
which would have been either 1863-64. Their father died when Reuben
was 10 years old which would have been 1869-70.
The United Empire Loyalist German Grandparents, the Bremners had settled
at Burritt's Rapids, a small community between Kempville and Merrickville.
(About 40 miles south of Ottawa, Ontario).
MONTGOMERY, Elizabeth died Apr 11, 1883 - 78 years
MONTGOMERY, William died Mar 15, 1868 - 32 years
