Married: 9 APR 1960 at: New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, Canada
Spouse: Glenda Jean ARTHURS
Born: 13 APR 1939 at: Inverness, Nova Scotia, Canada
Frank grew up in Northern Ontario...first in Webbwood, then in Sault Ste. Marie.
He worked as a fishing guide in his teens; at Canadian Tire for a year; with a Building
Contractor as a carpenter, and as a Hostler's Helper on the Canadian Pacific Railway.
This dirty job convinced him to join the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1954.
After basic training in Quebec, Frank went to Electronics school for nearly
a year and was then posted to Manitoba for 4 years working as an radio technician (air)on T33 jet trainers. From
there, he went to Centralia via Alymer, Ontario (which was the training school for statistics). It was at Centralia that he
met his future bride Glenda Arthurs . She was in the Medical branch while Frank was
attached to the Communications Sector as a Statistical Analyst.
Glenda called Pictou County
Nova Scotia home during her formative years.
She had decided to join the RCAF to see a little more of Canada. After her
basic training in Quebec, she worked in Northern Alberta, trained in Alymer, Ontario in the medical branch, was posted to Centrailia, Ontario (where she was discovered by Frank) and left him temporarily when posted to Gimli, Manitoba.
After that whirlwind romance, Glenda joined the civilian ranks in Domestic Engineering with the marriage
to Frank in her hometown in April 1960.
They journeyed to France because of Frank's posting to Air Division HQs at Metz. This gave them an opportunity to spend their honeymoon in Paris in April.
Kevin arrived in early 1961. With his delightful company, they spent two
great summer vacations, camping on the French Rivieria. Various other
trips around Europe enhanced their stay.
Due to her father's illness, Glenda took Kevin home to Nova Scotia for a visit in 1963. She was also expecting Jodi who arrived
in Nova Scotia in December. When Frank took leave to
be with Glenda during Jodi's arrival, he made a little side
trip to attend his parent's 50th anniversary before returning
to France.
Because of an RCAF Command decision to close Frank's trade in Statistics, he switched to computers. He was transferred to Ottawa, where
the family became one again. After lengthy disucussions, a
coin toss, and a job search; Frank left the RCAF for a civilian career in the computer field.
This took the Myers family to Northern Ontario (1964-69) with Algoma Steel.
A career switch to NCR triggered a transfer to Nova Scotia. They were now in Glenda's territory again. Frank's next career move was to Michelin Tires. He was their Information Systems Manager in Nova Scotia from 1970 to 1982.
The entire family was active in the New Glasgow community and
found many friends there. Frank & Glenda's fun years with
the Gyro Club was especially rewarding.
A short year, for the parents, back to France in 1983, while Kevin attended Dalhousie University in Halifax and Jodi took computer courses while married to Steve.
Frank & Glenda next went on to South Carolina, where Frank was a Special Projects Manager(1984-87) and Glenda tuned up her game of golf.
They returned to Nova Scotia; and Frank retired from Michelin at the end of 1991. This suprised Glenda who was not expecting him to retire until the year 2000! By now, Kevin was commencing a career in the Canadian Armed Forces; while Jodi had
dissolved the marriage with Steve and moved to the Toronto area.
Frank & Glenda moved to the retirement community of Elliot Lake, Ontario. While there,
they spent winters at Lakeland, Florida. Summers were enjoyed at Brownlee
Lake, about 5 minutes from Livingstone Creek Golf Course near Thessalon,
Ontario. Disappointed with Elliot Lake, they moved to Sault Ste. Marie
and contined to spend their summers at Brownlee Lake.
With all their travels, moving back to Northern Ontario had not
satisfied their retirement wishes; so they have ended up in
beautiful Brighton, Ontario. This has nicely situated them about half way between
their two children. Jodi, now married to Tom Sampson, is employed as an Accounting Manager in the Toronto area. Kevin,
works in the Payroll Division of DND in Ottawa.
It has also placed them in close proximity to Glenda's mom Jean in Trenton,
Ontario and her brother Keith who recently moved into a new home down
the street in Brighton.
