The Open Is Finally Closed!
While the Open Championship conducted by the R & A at Royal Liverpool was played under ideal weather conditions the AMFGA Open Championship required three tries before it was completed. July 20 – rained out. July 27 – lightning forced cancellation after 9 holes. On August 3 steady rain the day before and a passing storm saturated the Mystic Ridge course. The skies were still threatening rain when the thirteen AMF'ers teed off this Thursday. The rain returned about a third of the way into the round and kept up off and on for the duration of the championship. But did that deter the lads? Hardly, as the best scores of the season as a group were posted this day.
Twelve of the thirteen AMF'ers were net par or better and only four strokes separated the top nine players. When the scores had been tallied the 2006 Open Championship was a tie! Frank, carding a 75 and Glen who fired a 68 finished at –10 net and won $15.00 each. Frank's winnings ensure his playing privileges for 2007. Some other scores of note…Brian got around the course in 64. Steve and John shot 65 each. Click here for the full results from the Open Championship.
Frank and Glen earned 10 points each for the Super Senior Competition. Stan still leads that close race by 5 points over Stu and Bill T. Click here for the full AMFGA standings.
The Pacemakers whittled a little off the Masters lead in the Team Competition by earning three points. The Masters picked up two and the Jaggers took the single.
The Beer Game was won by the trio of Glen, Paul and Bill M. They finished at –20 for a four stroke victory.
Five Cleaners worth $5.00 each were paid out this week. Paul (13,16) won a pair. Singles went to Stu (7), Bill M (9) and Glen (10).
Notes: August 10th will be worth $20.00 for 1st and $10.00 for 2nd as it's a rain make up day. August 17th will be the next major – The AMFGA Championship.
