Bighorn Golf Club |
A true desert course, Arthur Hills has
incorporated natural rock formations, ravines and a
desert wash as strategic components of play. The first
six holes offer a variety of elevations, climbing more
than 1,000 feet through the Santa Rosa Mountains before
tumbling back down into the desert. Tee boxes carved into
natural rock outcroppings, fairways contoured into the
mountainous terrain, and greens tucked back into natural
coves present a most challenging golf experience. The
latter half of the course returns to a more traditional
layout of rolling hills and valleys, water hazards and a
couple of long par 5s which continue to test the
golfers skill. Signature Hole Comments: Number 6 is a 505-yard par 4 providing a breathtaking view of the Coachella Valley. Due to the 100-foot drop from tee to fairway, accuracy rather than distance will prove more effective for positioning the second shot. Because of the desert, straight drives are needed making this private course a challenging one. Bighorn is found on Vol 1 of the Links Library of Courses. It was one of the first to be converted from Links 386 format. Because of its' dersert location, it makes this course a different course to look at. |
