RACHELVILLE

Rachel Sowers was born July 30, 1992, at Stormont Vail Regional Medical Center, Topeka, Kansas. She was the youngest child of Bill and Diana Sowers. She had three older siblings, Kenny, Amanda and Emily. She was a surprise baby... six years younger than our third child, Emily. She attended Assumption Elementary School, sang in the children's choir at St. David's Episcopal Church and was a member of Assumption Roman Catholic Church, all in Topeka, KS.

On August 30, 1999, Rachel was diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia (Also known as acute myeloid leukemia or AML) at Children's Mercy Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri. She went through nine months of treatment, including chemo and a bone marrow transplant. In April, 2000, she was diagnosed with pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (now called pneumocystis jiroveci pneumonia). She died at Children's Mercy Hospital on May 17, 2000.

Rachel began working on this home page in March, 2000. The bunny, Cindy, was a gift given to her by her cousins, Doug and Vicky and their spouses, when she was first in the Hospital. It became an alter ego for her. Rachel was shy and inward. Cindy became loud and brazen.... though generally well behaved!

This page was never completed but I have added other information to it and will continue to do so concerning Rachel, her make-believe world of Rachelville, Cindy, her family, her life, her death and how it has touched her family, friends and many others who never met her personally.

What follows here is the main page of the RACHELVILLE page Rachel began... or should I say, "Cindy" began. Included are photos of the various stuffed animals who played a part in this world... and acted out little daily melodramas (usually with Rachel and her Dad playing the various roles) at home and in the hospital. I have also included emails written during Rachel's illness, poems writing by family members, etc etc. So... let me hand this page over to the bunny who still sits in our living room as a witness to this life that surprised us, challenged us, changed us, captivated us and continues to touch us... TAKE IT AWAY, CINDY!

The home of me!!!!
CINDY MARIA BUNNY

Hi everybody!!!! THIS IS CINDY!!!!!!!!!!!! I live in Rachelville. You can't find Rachelville on a map but it is a very special place. All my friends live there and my sisters do too.

Rachelville is located in the heart and mind of Rachel Sowers, our best friend. Rachel is the mayor of Rachelville and takes care of all of us. Rachel is my best friend. I've been with her for a long time in bunny years, since September, 1999. She got me from her cousins, Vicky, Gregg, Doug and Sandy while she was at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. I came with some baloons, but I got hungry one day and ate them... OOPS!

Rachel had to go to Children's Mercy Hospital in August, 1999, because she got a bad disease. The big words for this disease are Acute Myelogenous Leukemia. It took me three weeks to learn how to just say that!

Here are some interesting things about me, Rachel, Racheville and other things.............
