Julie Andrews Hosts "Broadway Love Songs" Concert Oct. 16

Julie Andrews will return to the New York stage Oct. 16 to host "My Favorite Broadway: The Love Songs," a concert of show music featuring a pantheon of stage titans, including Michael Crawford, Linda Eder, Patrick Stewart, Heather Headley and Marin Mazzie. Tickets for the New York City Center event go on sale Sept. 11. A portion of the proceeds will go to benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Buy them over the phone by calling (212) 581-1212, or on the web by clicking here.

The production will be taped for broadcast on PBS's "Great Performances," and eventual release on DVD, CD and videocassette.

Also on the schedule for "My Favorite Broadway: The Love Songs": Chita Rivera, Jennifer Holliday, Rebecca Luker, Bebe Neuwirth, Adam Pascal, Peter Gallagher and Brent Spiner. A lineup of their songs is being finalized. A production spokesperson said each star will be performing their signature songs (if any), plus personal favorites.

The event follows in the footsteps of the smash 1998 concert "My Favorite Broadway: The Leading Ladies," also hosted by Andrews, who did not sing. Andrews announced Sept. 6 that she reached an out-of-court settlement of her malpractice suit against a Manhattan throat doctor, whom she charged had permanently damaged her vocal cords.

Tony-winner Graciela Daniele will stage Love Songs, which will be conducted by Paul Gemignani, fronting The American Theatre Orchestra.

New York City Center is the theatre that hosts the annual "Encores! Great American Musicals in Concert" series. It's located at 131 West 55th St. in Manhattan. As with other BC/EFA events, this production is sponsored by Target stores.
