Irvinestown: (approx pop. 2,000) is a small town about 15km (or 8 miles) North of Enniskillen. It is in the parish of Derryvullan and in the barony of Lurg. The town was formerly know as Lowtherstown after Sir Gerard Lowther, the man who founded it in 1618. The estate was sold to Sir Christopher Irvine in 1667. He was related to Lowther through marriage. The town wasn't known as Irvinestown until Henry Mervyn D'Arcy Irvine changed it's name in the 19th century. A clock tower in the town is all that remains of the 1734 church that was built by Dr Patrick Delany, who was the rector of the town

The village sits on the river Erne. The parish of Belleek was created in the late 18th century from the townland of Templecarn.
