Course Design by Richard L. Doty
Thank You for downloading my course and actually reading the text file too! :)
Although this is the first course I have ever designed in the APCD, or any other course
designer for that matter, I certainly hope it will not be apparent as you load up and play
it. I cannot begin to tell you how many hours were spent designing this course. I lost
track a LONG time before it was finished. My wife probably knows but I don't DARE ask
her... :)
===================================
Course details:
Playability: Probably the hardest thing to do while designing a course is to make it
playable for all who will load it up. As a Power Stroke Champ player I have downloaded
many fine looking courses that were just unbearable to play in PS Champ mode. I went to
great lengths to try and make this a challenging course for 2 clickers without destroying
the ability to have fun on it for PSer's.
The fairways:
are for the most part generous with a 3-wood needed at times if you like to play it safe.
There are very few completelt flat lies on any of the fairways.
The bunkers: can be tough if you find one... which does not happen all that much in LS
anyway... There is somewhere around 150 - 160 bunkers on the course.
The greens: are maybe one of the things I am the most proud of... the greens are certainly
the great equalizer for the 2-click players... although they are not extreme by any means
I believe they will challenge most players throughout the round.
The pins:
here is my philosophy about pin positions...
difficult pins= 4 difficult pins , 1 medium pin , 1 easy pin...
medium pins= 3 medium pins , 2 difficult pins , 1 easy pin...
easy pins= 3 easy pins , 2 medium pins , 1 difficult pin...
The reason I like to set pins in this fashion is so that you will not always get 18 pins
that are tucked 12 feet from the rough or a bunker during a round. The way I lay pins out
on a green should give you a variety of shots to different portions of the greens in any
given round. This means that even while playing hard pins you will get a few shots at pins
that are in the middle of the green or just slightly off of the center of the green.
That's not to say that they won't be on a small side-slope though when you do! ;)

Custom Items:
custom Panorama: yes
custom flag: yes
splash screen: added 2 splash screens
custom textures:
rough
deep rough
dry grass
bunker sand
beach sand
dry mud
ocean
custom images:
at last count I had done 100 of them. (I hope I got all of them in at least once! :) 18 of
them are the hole signs and most of the rest are of animals and birds but I also added a
few flowers and rocks in as well. There are four sailboats and a hot-air balloon.
One of the greatest tributes to the Links Community so far is that there has not been one
person squabbling about others using their custom designed objects, textures, and
pano's... you are welcome to use any of the custom items I have included with this course
but please give me a mention in your courses text file if you do.
custom sounds:
I have added somewhere around 40 wave files... mostly of birds and other critters... On
the first tee you will see the float-plane that brings the members to the island course
and there is a wave included for it also. That wave only plays at the first tee although
the plane would be visible from the entire first hole. I did not want to add that plane
wav to the entire hole because if 4 guys were to play an online round it would be very
annoying to hear that wave every shot for 15 minutes.

KUDOS:
First off I would like to thank MS and The Salt Lake Games Group... not only for giving us
the designer but more specifically for giving us the stock objects in the designer. There
would not be one course released to date that would be worth a crap if it was not for the
time these people have spent creating the objects that are included in the APCD. Hell,
have you ever tried to create a custom Palm tree? I gave it a shot... what a nightmare!!
Thanks Dev Team! I dedicated hole #15 to you guys and called it The Dev T.
I would also like to thank a few of my online golfing friends who beta tested an early
version of the course. Some also beta tested a later version that is closer to what you
have downloaded. I received some VERY good ideas from all of these people that really
improved the look and feel and playability of the course. Without their input the course
would not have turned out as good as it did.
Jim Vitale, John Parsons, Todd Stewart, Lee Harris, Dan Deshaney, Ian Downs, Larry
McDermott, Matt Medina, Bill Grauer, Guenter Kujat, and... well let's see.... who else...
hmmm... OH YEAH!! That MADS GUY!!! Miguel Angel Diaz Saņudo!
I hope I did not leave anyone out... if I did I apologize... I do think there were a few
of the Golfcom Kali users that JW gave the file to but I am sorry I do not know who they
were....
=====================================
course flaws: at this time only one:
there is one issue with the course that I could not solve... On hole #4 the panorama
renders backward in the pond that the hole overlooks. I sent the course file to Microsoft
to see if they could tell me what was wrong. They told me that the flaw was not in the
design of the course but was a game issue that would be fixed in an upcoming patch. I
would like to thank Matt Dawson and the Dev Team for helping me figure out what was wrong.
=====================================
Although this course is named after one of the games best Tournament Web Sites it is
dedicated to the entire Links Community. It just amazes me how dedicated a small group of
people can be to a game and to the others whom play that game...
Enjoy...
