Form Guide 2004

The Draw for the 2004 EPOB Australia Day Golf Classic took place the other night and the the following pairings were chosen.

Group 1:    Wrighty & Apple / Sam and Delbo

Group 2:    Butch & T.P. / Mark Faithful & Ross Davis

Group 3:    Westy & Rosey / Bainy & Spiro

Group 4:    Shawry & Rocky / Ado Dohnt & Hawkeye

Group 5:    Besty & Arch / Blakes & Keith

Tee Off for the first group at 7am.  $60 each includes green fees, a roll, a few beers at the 19th, entry to the races afterwards and whatever leftover on the bar. Also - prizes galore, laughs, what more do you want!

Sponsorship for the event has been pouring in, with Unique and Specialty flooring weighing in as the Major Sponsor. Westy has produced a couple of Nike Golf Bags (value $160 each) as the first prize and there are a numerous balls, caps etc as well. We will have the usual array of closest to the pins, longest drives and let you know on the day whats what.

The normal rules of golf apply and it is a game of pairs best ball. The only change is that you must use a minimum of three(3) Tee Offs each player per 9 . Hopefully this helps even out the scores abit

Reaction to the draw has been quick and the banter has already started.

Butch - "If Westy and Rosey win, I'll hang up my clubs forever" - (Butch has partnered both in recent years and neither of them have been able to drag him over the line)

The Market

3/1 - Ado and Hawkeye       This pair would have to be the red hot favourites to take out the title. Ado has paid his dues over the last few years and looks to have a partner who can play this year. Hawkeye is a bit of a shark from way back and would be rubbing his hands together at the prospect of another title. They both can play and will be right up there at the finish. Unknown recent from but sure to be hard to beat. Late mail-Ado has pulled out and Howard Cropley has come in to replace him. Rumour is that Howard is a 12 Handicap- if this is the case then they would have to be at 2's to win. Questions are already being asked about how Hawk was able to wrangle this late change. Delbo perpetrated a sting a couple of years back and this has a familiar look to it, it wouldn't surprise me if the bookies refused to take bets on this pair.

4/1 Shawry and Rocky       Another pair that is sure to be there abouts at the end. Alot could depend on the unpredictable Sharky Shaw and his ability to keep Rocky "up". We know Rocky has been playing regularly in the build up and is keen to do well. Whether Sharky has any form or game to add to the pairing could be the deciding factor. Alot will be expected of Rocky in the gamesmanship stakes to help keep Hawk and Howard in check. Expect a strong showing.

5/1Blakes and Keith   A pairing that certainly has the ability to pull off a victory on the Day. The old stager Blakes, a long time supporter of the event will again drive up from Bunbury in hope of his first win. This year he has drawn a debutant in Keith who has certainly got the talent and game to provide Blakes with possibly his best chance yet. How well they handle the distraction of Arch in their grouping could determine their fate. Keep Safe.

6/1 Wrighty and Apple      A couple of old plodders likely to give a few blokes a run for their money if they can produce on the day. The big hitting Crossy matched with the deft touches of Wrighty are certainly capable. They have paired before without luck but likely to be there abouts. Good each way bet

6/1 Sam and Delbo    A bit of an unknown quantity here. At the time of going to air there was some doubt over Sam taking his place and a red hot was standing by to take over. Delbo - the old "tic toc" can play at times and could have the goods to score a win regardless of his partner-well thats what he reckons anyway! What a lot of shit-we all know Delbs can only win if his partner plays a blinder and carries him for 18 holes. If Sam plays he is likely to carry Delbs part of they way but that may not be far enough.

6/1 Westy and Rosey    There has been some talk about this pair-pity it has all been bad! We know Westy can play abit and as a past winner you couldn't completely write him off, but the big if will be whether Rosey can back up after the pasting Butch gave him in the wash up after last years game. Rosey was the first to sign up this year so we know he is keen, maybe he has been having lessons in order to silence the critics? Prefer others.

7/1 Butch and TP    No realistic chance in this company. We have seen them both before and have heard the same old excuses year after year, blaming the partner blah blah blah. Their only hope of a win on the day is backing vacant block in the last at the races afterwards. Look out of their depth here.

8/1 Besty and Arch    A pairing that are sure to enjoy their day out. Besty has been playing consistently lately (consistently bad we hear) and he will be keen to make an impression on the leader board, however he will have Arch playing without the help of Westys special chocolate cake. They are sure to have plenty of laughs and this may help them not take their loss too badly at the end of the day. Not likely to figure here.

6/1 Duxy and Ross    Two new players here drawn together. Perhaps the occasion could be too big for them at their first outing? Both are unknown quantities so it would be best to keep them safe. We know Duxy to be a fierce competitor so he will no doubt be out to put in a good showing and like wise Ross is sure to have a pretty reasonable game so together they could be a dangerous pair. Worth a look.

8/1 Bainy and Spiro    Both players backing up after last year. Bainy came pretty close last year only a few shots off the lead so he has some ability with the sticks. The unknown factor will be Spiros game -a NAGA last year (Not A Golfers Asshole) we aren't sure if was him or his partner that contributed least. Perhaps having to listen to Westy and Roseys banter may be too big an obstacle to overcome. Unlikely to finish in the top few.

I'm not sure if Butch and Spiro are running a book this year after Hangers and Westy cleaned them out last year.

See you there!
