After a couple more late changes to the draw (caused by that useless prick "no cigars" who has a flu apparently ) the final pairings and Groupings Starting at a 7.30am T-Off are as follows:
Group 1
Besty and Shane with Brendon and Lino
Group 2
Hawkeye and Hangers with Ian and Spiro
Group 3
Howlett and Cheese with Rocky and Rosey
Group 4
Crossy and Delbo with Phil and Pudu
Group 5
Tommy and Trotty with Copes and Wrighty
Group 6
Rosco and Arch with Keith and Blakers
Group 7
Bainy and Porky with Butch and Shawry
Rules are as follows:
Pairs best ball or
ambrose or whatever you want to call it.
The ball being played
must be played from where it lies, your partner can place his ball within
one club length- no nearer the hole. Putts should be marked and taken from
the same spot. The only extra restriction is that each pair must use at
least 3 Tee shots per 9 from each player - you playing opponents can monitor
this.
Other than that all
normal rules of golf and any specisal course rules apply.
Winner is the lowest
score after 18 holes. In the case of a tie we will count back in order
from the 18th hole to find the lowest sore on a hole. (If that doesn't
sort it then there will be an ugly dick competition, winner take all -
I hope cheese doesn't tie for first!)
We will have the usual assortment of longest drives and closest to the pin etc. which we will tell you on the day.
So far sponsorship has been pouring in with Aspen weighing in for some prizes and hopefully Choice homeloans will come good with some cabbage for the bar at the races. There are a few others who have indicated that they will bring towels, hats, balls, stubby holders etc, which we will use as prizes as well. If you have any stuff bring it on the day and we will shell it out to some worthy recipients.
We had quite a few
blokes who were unable to attend for variuos reasons, namely;
Jimmy No Cigars -
Flu
Hoops - family commitments
TP. - transfered to
Broome
Westy - sick of travelling
up to Perth (although it could be just old age)
Howard Cropley - prior
engagement
George - cant play(we
could have told him that!) but he is hoping to catch us at the races later
for a drink
Ducka - away
There are a few other
but I've forgotten at the moment
Here is the all important
form guide for the match. Let me just remind you that I was pretty well
on the money last year and the Bookies obviusly took note and saved themselves
the embarrasment of the previos year when they got cleaned out.
7/2 Ian and Spiro.
Ian is a multiple winner of this event and returns after an absence
of a couple of years thanks to the early marron season. He always has pretty
good form and teaming with Spiro this year may still not be too much of
a weight for him to carry. If Spiro can play a few good shots of the tee
when needed then this pairing will be hard to beat. Strong showing likely.
4/1 Bainy and Porky.
A likely duo here. Bainy certainly has the game to be a winner on this
course and with a past winner in Porky he looks to have drawn well. Whether
Porky can perform, fresh from stud duties may be the telling factor. Likely
to figure.
4/1 Blakes and
Keith. Buttering up again for the second time in a row, this is certainly
a dangerous pairing. They finished a close second last year and again should
be in the mix at the end. The only quetion is whether they will be able
to handle the barrarge of sledging they are likely to recieve from their
opponents. Concession bet.
9/2 Besty and Shane.
Another dangerous pairing that could do well if the putts drop. Besty
is known to have been practicing - although 36 in 3 holes the other day
is alot of practice!. Shane has played previously and has shown he has
a game worthy of some respect. Keep safe.
5/1 Crossy and
Delbo. Generous
odds here for a pair that could go close. The pair of well known travellers
could just about have the combined game to cause an upset if they get it
all together on the day. Both are fresh having not played since last years
tournament and this might work in their favour.Chance.
5/1 Gav and Cheese.
With Steve back from the interstate tour and Gav returning after a
few years absence, this pairing has the potential to go all the way. Apart
from the fact that they stand on the wrong side of the ball the big question
will be whether they can hold it together for 18 holes, or whether the
100 beers and grappa from the night before will take its toll. A
good place bet.
5/1 Phil and Pudu.
Phil
joins us from the productive Aspen stable and while he tries to play it
down, is sure to have had plenty of practice in all those corporate days
that he attends. Pudu meanwhile is also likely to have been out practicing
in an attempt to get his name on the trophy and he will have to put up
with plenty of banter from the opposition to do it. Not without a chance.
5/1 Butch and Shawry.
While Butchs form has been pretty ordinary of late, he is keen as mustard
to be able to put the trophy in the office at work. As a fierce competitor
he forms a dangerous pairing with the equally competitive- and winner from
last year-sharky Shaw. These two shifty buggers are likely to use all the
tricks in the book to put their opponents off and themselves in front.
(We put them last this year so Butch can collect all his fridge magnets
along the way). Certainly capable.
6/1 Ross and Arch.
Again these are probably pretty generous odds, as these two certainly
could play well enough to win. Ross has a good game and Arch has plenty
of ability so they may just get the mix right on the day. Hopefully they
won't be put off by what is sure to be a fairly verbal grouping. A possibility
6/1 Rocky and Rosey.
Rosey is going for a hat trick of NAGAs and he looks to have pulled
a partner who may save him the embarresment of it. I'm not sure if Rock
can drag Rosey from last place to first this year though, Its a pretty
big assignment for anyone! Its all about having fun on the day though-right
Rock? Prefer others
7/1 Hawk and Hangers.
The form here is a bit sketchy on Hangers, he won here in a blaze of
glory two years ago and hasn't been seen since. Perhaps if he has some
of that special cake he had last time things may happen. Hawkeye is hoping
that his partner can produce something as he is unlikely to have the game
to do it off his own back. Expect a drug test if they win.
8/1 Copes and Wrighty.
The dark horse pairing of the event. Copes is fresh from a stint interstate
and is keen to pay again after a few years absence. Wrighty, while not
having much recent form is also keen to get the trophy back again. If they
can get it together on the day then anything is possible. Perhaps.
10/1 Tommy and
Trotty. Trotty is another returning from along stint interstate, so
little is known of his recent form, however he is known to have a decent
game. Likewise Tommy has plenty of ability and is just getting back to
golf after an injury enforced lay off. They could be the surprise pairing
of the day and finish well up the ladder. Worth a look.
12/1 Brendon and
Lino. Lino makes his debut in this event and has given away very little
of his recent form, however he does come from the Aspen stable and you
can never really write those guys off. Brendon returns to the event after
a few years away and claims to have no form at all. Again take it with
a grain of salt and back against them at your own peril. An outside
chance.
There it is boys.
If you have any sledging or dirt to report I'm happy to put it here.
Likewise I'll have
my reporters hat on at the aftermatch for quotes, stories, sledges etc
Good Luck and Good
Golf.
