WALK WITH THE LEGENDS OF GOLF

This Saturday at the picturesque Burswood Resort Golf Course take a walk with some of the biggest names in world golf.     DelBorrello, Cross, Western, Berry, Howlett, Baroni  and Williams are just some of the big names that will be there this week, battling it out for the prestigious EPOB golfing trophy.

Since 1994 the tournament has attracted high quality fields and a growing reputation as one of the premier events on the golfing calendar. This year, for the third time, the tournament returns to the Burswood resort Golf Course, selected for its demanding  layout and its proximity to the Ascot race course (site of this years aftermatch entertainment.).

After much negotiation the field this year has been restricted to 24 players, ensuring a high standard of competition, whilst giving spectators every opportunity to see some of their favourite players. Tee off is at approximately 8.20am for the first group so all players would be expected to be there by no later than 8.00am. Cost is $50 AUD, which includes green fees and a buggy, with a couple of coldies for the car park afterwards.

Whilst sponsorship of the event has been filled for some time now any players in a position to add some goods to the prize pool, would be much appreciated and allow us to have something other than bragging rights for closest to the pins, winning etc. (e.g If you have any corporate merchandise that you can aquire from work - caps, stubby holders, fridge magnets, slic chix vouchers etc all would be good)

Rules for the day:
The game is to be played as pairs best ball (ambrose pairs)- If your not sure ask somebody who has played before.
The ball to be played is played as it lies, the partners ball may be placed within one club length no nearer the hole. Putts are marked and taken from the same spot.
Mark you score and your opposing pairs score and hand them to Wrighty at the end of the round.
Each pair must use a minimum of three shots per player from the Tee, each nine.
All other rules of golf and local rules apply.
In the event of a tie a count back will take place. The lowest score on a hole starting from the 18th and going backwards will decide the winner. If this doesn’t split them then we will toss a coin or enie meenie miny mo.

Prize Bonus Holes:
Longest Drive 3rd and 18th holes
Closest to the Pin 6th and 11th holes
Closest second shot 10th hole

The draw was held in front of the following witnesses, Wrighty, Rocky, Delbo, Westy and Dorithy, The Lion, Tinman, Scarecrow and the Wizard of Oz. All was above board and no fudging of pairs was entered into. Any complaints take it up with someone who cares!

Teeing off in this order:

Group 1 J. Western, I. Berry J. Strafehl, T. Prentice
Group 2 R. Dennis, D. Bain A. Dohnt, F. Delcasale
Group 3 P. Wright, A. Barwick I. Coleman, L. Baroni
Group 4 T. Williams, R. Ewen A. Delborello, A. Glendenning
Group 5 G. Howlett, S. Cross G. Hawkins, B. Barwick
Group 6  D. Best, P. Hasler S. Modica, M. Blakely

The Form Guide:

3/1  Butch and Ian.  This pairing has the ability to go all the way with the Dual winner Coleman teaming up with the master of the banter Baroni. Whisper has it that Butch shot a 39 off the stick the other day and if he can produce the odd shot under pressure then these two will be almost unbeatable. Certain to be up there amongst them at the finish. – Like Vacant Block in the last race, Put your house on it!

9/2  Rocky and the Rat. Past champ Rock pairs up with Debutant Bainy for this dangerous Duo. We all know Rocky has plenty of ability and has been practising hard to get his name back on the trophy. He has blamed poor partners as his excuse in recent years, but this year he has  Bainy, fresh from the Gold Coast on his side. While his form is unkown his natural ability is likely to see him hit the ball pretty well.  Likely to be a threat.

5/1 Besty and Porky. Both past winners and could combine well to make an impression. Course spies have seen Besty religiously playing Burswood every week in an effort to make an impact this year. A recent score of 41 indicates he could be making some ground. Porky is likely to offer some big hitting and reliable backup in the sledging dept. if Blakes starts getting out of hand.     Keep safe

6/1 Delbo and Flappa. We all know Delbs can play a bit, two times on the winners podium is evidence of that, but the big question is, can he lead a team to victory rather than be a passenger as he has in the past?
Andys ability is unknown as he debuts this year but he is likely to be a handy partner. How well the pair combine on the day will determine their fate. Prefer others

6/1 Wrighty and Aaron.  Aaron makes his return to the tournament after a number of years absence and teams up with the old man of the tour in Wrighty. While Wrighty has the game on his day to put his name on the trophy once again his recent form suggests otherwise. This groups chances rest on Aarons ability to produce some quality golf and our spies have been unable to determine this. Place bet at best

7/1 Tommy and JR. This is likely to be the sleeper of the field. Tommy has plenty of ability and first timer JR has plenty of natural talent so he is likely to go OK. The real test is whether both of them can stand the little barking dog that Delbo has threatened to carry around in his bag. Tommy has gone oh so close a number of times and this year could be it. Worth an each way bet

7/1 Hawkeye and Brendan. Another pair that has the goods to win on the day. Both have gone to ground in recent times to hone their skills out of the spotlight. Gav is desperate to get his name back on the trophy for some bragging rights in the Choice Corporate boardroom so it won’t be through lack of trying. Brendan returns to the tournament after a few years layoff and he would be pretty keen to produce as well. Unknown form of late but could be a threat.

7/1 Crossy and Howlett. This is another pairing that could be a real danger. Gav has abit of form of late and is a keen student of the game, while Crossy has the sort of consistency that should prove the perfect foil for Gavs blood rushes. If Gav can stay off the home brew long enough and if Crossy doesn’t have too many red wines the night before then these two could start being measured up for their jackets right now. A big couple of ifs though and hence their odds in the betting

7/1 Westy and Arch. Arch Berry returns this year after a lay off and teams up with one of last years winners in Westy. While Arch has no known recent form to go on, he has some ability and could be of help if he gets it together on the day. Westy on the other hand has been quietly going about his preparation and he would be keen to do well to silence any critics that were sceptical of his recent win.

10/1 Sam and Blakes. A danger pairing mainly due to the unknown ability of Sam as a first timer to this tournament. Blakes has a game though and if he is in form then it may not matter what ability his partner has. I’m sure Blakes is keen to do well as he has travelled up from Bunbury for the game, - well it wouldn’t be for the drinks and races afterwards would it? Best chance for a prize is on one of the bonus holes

10/1 Adrian and Franco. Both first timers. We hear that Adrian is abit of a gun (79 recently at this course), so this could be a pretty competitive pairing. Franco is another whose ability is unknown but again natural talent is probably going to see him get around OK. How well they cope with the sledging that Rocky is sure to use to upset them is likely to be the deciding factor. Another to keep safe

10/1 Jake and TP. Two more first timers. All reports indicate Jake hits the ball pretty well, but I’m sure Westy will do the right thing and have him doing all the shit work on Friday to stiffen his back and his swing up for us. TP on the other hand could be the dark horse. But if he isn’t he is sure to have a joke about it anyway. There should be plenty of humour in this foursome. Perhaps not this time around

Well there you have it Boys – Let the banter begin!

See you at 8 at the course
Remember any prizes would gratefully be accepted and added to the prize pool
Beers in the carpark afterwards and then straight to the races

Delbo don’t forget to bring the trophy.

Cheers
Wrighty
