Cheese and Chriso win 2007 EPOB Classic.

The 2007 Australia Day Golf Classic was played at the prestigious Dunsborough Lakes course recently. The annual event has been won by Steve “Cheese” DaRui and his partner, debutant Michael Christian. In almost perfect conditions for golf, no-one was able to keep up with the highly fancied winning pair. Although a commonly heard statement after most holes was “well played Michael”, their final score, as a pair, of even par was too good for the rest of the field.  Tournament favourites GavIts my time” Howlett and Brad Christian wilted under the weight of expectation and carded a two over par 74 to finish a worthy second.

Prize winners on the Day were:

Winners              Steve DaRui and Michael Christian

2nd                       Gav Howlett and Brad Christian

3rd                       Brett Fullerton and Dave Gerryns

4th                       Darren Best and Mark Blakely

NAGAs                Craig Nelms and Neil Smith

2nd Hole Longest Drive     Gav Howlett

5th Hole Closest to Pin      Craig Nelms

8th Hole Longest Drive      Michael Christian

11th Hole Closest to Pin     Darren Best

15th Hole Longest Drive    Brad Christian

18th Hole Closest 2nd Shot Gav Howlett/Brad Christian

As it has been in the past, the sponsorship for this year’s event was outstanding. Special thanks must go to Delbo and Hawkeye and the ASPEN GROUP as our major sponsor, for their generosity on the day as the drinks and prizes were much appreciated. Also thanks to their management team at the course who made all feel extremely welcome.

Other honourable mentions must go to those below who also provided sponsorship of some form on the day.

Kings Park Settlements – David Bain (in absence)

Bunbury Toyota – Mark Blakely

American Express Travel – Darren Best

Bunbury City Sports – Gary Coleman (in absence)

Asteron – Richard Dennis

Toll – Steve DaRui

Image – Ian Coleman

If there are any others that I forgot please let me know and I’ll fix the list.

Special thanks must go to our organizers for the weekend. Westy did a fantastic job in getting the food and drinks sorted for the aftermatch, running around to make sure all of us enjoyed ourselves and got home safely, not to mention the use of his jet ski -   which was much enjoyed by kids and dads. Also thanks to Gav for his help in organizing the day and for his hospitality back at the shed (even if he did fall asleep!)

I’m hoping to get a few photos of the day that Westy has, I’ll add them when I get them so check back every now and then. Likewise if you have any stories or comments email them to me and I’ll whack them on. (I know I need to update the pictures of some of the girls!) The Web site shuts down for awhile if it gets too much traffic, so if you are looking through the site it may give you a message to that effect. This is abit of a pain, so I am looking around for a new web host where this doesn’t happen. I’ll let you know if the address changes.

The early call for next year is for Blakers to organize, at The Sanctuary in Bunbury. Possibly on the Sunday with a family day at the races afterwards. We’ll have to go back and look at the “no c**ts” rule and let you know.

Cheers

Wrighty
