Besty and Bainy win Bunbury 2008

A birdie on the first hole of play, set the standard for this year’s competition. With Bainy “on fire”, shooting the lights out and Besty chiming in when needed, the pair were never headed and finished the day one under for a well deserved victory. Gav and Cheese finished second at one over. Again Howlett had appeared to have chosen well, partnering last years winner Cheese, but for the second year running it was not to be and he cut a dejected looking figure at the aftermatch. Scores on the day were as follows:

Hawk & Arch

Wrighty & Bruce

Special thanks should go to Blakes for organising the day. A few new ideas with the draw occurring on the first hole and all previous winners given “A” grade status seemed to work really well. As did the extra novelties for “B” graders only. Blakes also managed to stay calm under intense pressure from an unnamed source questioning the whereabouts of the “esky” afterwards.

The after match at the races was bloody hot, just as well there were plenty of refreshments on hand to replace any lost fluids. Not too many winners, but all had a good time catching up and discussing the “if only” scenario.

Special thanks again to sponsors who produced for the day. As usual Aspen were the marquee sponsors and they no doubt see the benefit in continuing their contribution to promote this prestigious event. (Thanks Gav and Delbs.) The usual array also included, Bunbury Toyota (Blakes), Bunbury City Sports (Catcha), Rural Timber Floors (Westy) and others who I am waiting on confirmation of. (p.s. if I forgot to mention you and your company, let me know and I’ll add you to the list.)

There has been no firm commitment on the venue for next years event. I know Westy is keen on Dunsborough again and Mandurah has also been mentioned as well as a move to return to Burswood. Email me and let me know what you think.

If you are browsing the site and get kicked off, its only because the site sometimes generates too much activity and the host closes it for a day, so you may need to check back later.

Cheers

Wrighty
