OH GREGORY WHERE ART THOU?????
Well here's were it all began, that is me (in green of course), my brother, and my father standing at the gates of Graceland in 1977 just after Elvis had died. My Dad was probably the biggest influence in my life. He would take me along when I was young to see his band practice; he was the drummer in a band called The Velvetones. No fame but a lot of fun, its only a few of the lucky ones who achieve being at the right place at the right time. My Mother tells me they played at the crows nest. I never really saw the Crows Nest, but I heard it was a little bar Benton, TN. Yes there were various incarnations of the velvetones with different members, drums, and bongos, with band logos written all over them. Then all of a sudden all of it stopped...I don't know what happened but we joined a church and I just didn't ask about it ...he didn't talk about it... I never knew music had such an impact on peoples lives until I saw my Dad crying when he heard the news that the king was gone. I never noticed it before, but he is sporting muttonchops in this photo hrhrhrhmmmmm. But alas! I regress Oh! Gregory where art thou must go on. Graceland is where it began but it would be a seven-year gap in my life till we take it up again. I believe I was sixteen or seventeen when I ask my parents for a bass guitar. I was talking to a friend at school who was starting a band and told him he could count me in, I had never touched one but I was so excited with the idea and said " Hey, I can play the bass." And like that I was in a band. We found a Sears brand bass in a pawnshop for seventy-five dollars and graciously my parents bought it for me. After a few months we were ready to rehearse. Lucky for me the guys I had bragged to that I could play the bass where worse than I was (insert laughter here), but we learned together. One thing leads to another drummer didn't like the guitarist, the guitarist finds a woman who doesn't like the band. The drummer tells me he knows of a paying gig with a country band and could hook me up in a heart beat so I say "Yes, I can play country I can do it" Not much can be said about the "Broken Wheel Saddle Club Band we played the Broken Wheel Saddle Club and got forty bucks per member each night we played. Now learning to play bass while listening to Iron Maiden, Motorhead and judas priest, one kinda gets lost in the rhythmic patterns of country music. When they said "give us a bass solo, Boy" it was the bass line from Iron Maidens Killers in the middle of Johnny B. Goode. That is when I decided I was in the wrong house. The Broken Wheel Saddle Club Bands Guitarist Carl told me that I would be much happier playing with his daughters boyfriends band that needed a bassist. I said "I can Do it, give me the number"
----No I dont have any recordings of the Broken Wheel Saddle Club Band so dont ask.
High school Grad Pic.
Now Krystal Hayze was the band that I consider to be my first true band. We actually wrote music together though we never played out anywhere. I really cant remember what happened I think the drummer was stealing the guitarist girlfriend which got the drummer knocked out and kicked out. Enter Bart. I don't remember all the details about how we got together but we ended up kicking out everyone else in the band and being very very...rude (hahahahahahahaha) It was around this time I was eighteen, it was May, and a big part of my heart was ripped out as my Father died at the hands of an inept anesthesiologist during outpatient surgery... I will never forget ANYWAY Bart and I played music with for something like ten years or more he was another HUGE influence on me musically opening my mind to obscure punk bands, the heaviest metal that was metal in the eighties, and Grunge...yes there was grunge in the eighties nirvana and pearl jam were not pioneers. Together we were: Compound Fracture, a punk band severely bent on getting bent with another great friend Mike Cross who I miss dearly, Villain, a supposed thrash metal band that was more pop like metal and yet another dear friend Mike Ellis.Who could ever forget Jay Ray??I went on a musical hiatus but not for long Upon asking Bart for a position in his new band he said all positions where full but he could hook me up with some guys in Chattanooga sorry I cant remember all the names of the band members but there was: Andre and a band called Over Barren... Eric Scealf and a band called Sir Joseph Idea there is video tape footage of Sir Joseph Idea out there I will be glad to pay for it if any of you out there have it... Somehow I ended up with Bart again in Brick Halo, a punk band that recalled music from compound fracture and sounded more like metal. I recently heard this stuff on video and much to my surprise I liked it especially with Cory singing. a lot of this stuff sounds like todays harder edge rock.
Me with Bart,..that was along time ago!! say '84-85'?
Compound Fracture
I worked at a textile mill in Cleveland, TN. I had been there since I was in the second band Villain with Bart, our Guitarist Mike got us both jobs there, but over the years I was the only one left. I was chatting with a guy in the break room one day and he gave his name, Brian Cash, I said "cash?" He said "yes" Now for those of you who dont know my dad had a friend named Charlie Cash that he worked with years ago so I asked if there was a connection and he said "yeah, Charlies my Dads name" So I began explaining who I was and that my dad had talked about his dad and we had as little children played together at each others houses. We were both blown away by the coincidence and continued talking When I found out that Charlie had past away I nearly flipped and then told him of my fathers passing. Somehow as most conversations do we discussed music he had a band Problem Child in Athens I invited him up to hear my band. (At the time I think it was Brick Halo)
Brian (right) with his brother mickey. Brian is single,,and looking
One of the happiest events in my life was the birth of my son Joseph...
After a few weeks of talking we decided that we should get our own band together but he said he already had a bassist. RELUCTANTLY after hours of torture I said "yes, I can play Lead guitar find me a spot" now, I don't know if you know but I didn't know the first thing about playing anything but the bass guitar. All I knew was that if I followed the rhythm guitarist hands I could fake the rest...sounded like crap the first time out but I practiced at home and got much better I like to think so anyway Brian and I started a friendship like I have never known he was more like a brother to me than my own brother and the Bassist Chuck , we knew we were meant to play music together, call it Soul Brothers kinda like Soul mates but for friends not lovers although there was the night with the moonshine...or was it the wine?? NO!!!!nevermind
Chuck The best bassist I know.. and the bast friend anyone could ask for
Me and my Ibanez Predator

Brian Chuck and myself manned the helm of what is ToyboxX several band names several lineups We had no direction we just had fun, which are what the other bands I played in lacked. And what makes ToyboxX the best band I have ever been a part of. I've got videos and on Brians web site he claims to have the only audio recordings of us but I will be posting some here. You can see and hear how much fun we had even when we didnt sound good we were happy.

One of the happiest times in my life I married my best friend Marissa, my college mate
Then I heard an old old story I heard a new song I heard the voice of God I followed.... and have seen many things. After the life I led, God still found in me reason for redemption and He can do the same for you. I have been an ordained Deacon and I still have my relationship with God.
I thought that being who I was in the Church now I couldnt be in the band anymore sold all my equipment and left the music life behind I never thought about it till now but maybe thats the same thing that happened to my Father and his music. Idunnomaybee ! if you want a discuss religeon e-mail me
Brian believe it or not went on to play drums for Bart's band Thump gun, Bart had an accident with his motorcycle and couldnt play drums anymore so he plays overhand rhythm guitar, (quite well might I say) I love the stuff thump gun has done so far I think they have a good shot at it but Brian left them already and well just have to see. Chuck once owned psychedelic Circus, skulls and goodies of the such, in Cleveland
I played music in my church and put out a CD with me playing all rhythm, lead, and bass guitars.
I have recently came to terms with my Christianity and my musicianship and am at this time looking to replace my equipment.
