With thoughts of ice cold drinks (namely beer) and air conditioning threatening to overwhelm rational thought, we set out for Port Hedland. A mere 4 hours away, or so we'd deluded ourselves. You just don't want to know the actual temperature when even the breeze is so hot you can feel your eyes burning. Definitely not the sort of heat you want to be lying on the molten bituman pumping up a jack, and even less so three times within an hour. Add those to our list of tires that lost their lives to the cause. But what can you do.
Feeling the full brunt of you're-buying-tires-in-the-middle-of-nowhere-so-we-can-charge-you-whatever-we-want-you-suckers Pilbara hospitality, we made our way to the bustling mecca of Port Hedland. There's even more people here than normal, as it seems every out of work tradesman from around the country is here to make a quick buck on BHP's new HBI plant. We met some guys who'd come from Woolangong in 9 days to just to get work here. (that's a long way--check the map)
By the way, if you ever find yourself in Port Hedland on a blistering 40 odd degree day, we suggest Hedland College cafeteria. It's pretty cool in here.
