1 POUND GOLD NUGGET
Several years ago, I was on a prospecting trip in
Arizona with a group of people. While I was busy
checking out an alluvial fan with my metal detector,
I ran into another man who was busy doing the same
thing. We struck up a conversation, hunted the rest of the day together, I hadn't found anything yet, and was getting a little frustrated, Nick noticed this, so when I wasn't looking he threw a one pound gold nugget in front of my search coil,
I was amazed to see such a large nugget, because I
had never seen anything that big in my life. He
finally confessed that he had found it in Australia
and that he was a professional nugget hunter, and did it for a living. He said he spends six months out of
the year in Australia and finds enough gold to take
the rest of the year off. He said he had just sold a gold nugget that was just a little bit smaller than
the one he was showing me for $10,000.00 dollars. He
showed me a special metal detector that he had made
for him. It had a 15 inch search coil on it, he said he doesn't waste his time searching for the small
nuggets only the large ones. I know this much,
holding that one pound gold nugget in my hands has
definitely made me add one more goal to my life and
that is, nugget hunting in Australia.
