7-11!

7-Eleven Worshipping

News, notes, and reviews of convenience stores I have known

This page contains reviews of convenience stores I've been to. The reviews are broken up by region, more or less. When I first started this waste of cyberspace, I was able to fit all my convenience stores on one page. But then I would remember more and more--it turns out I've been to more than my share of convenience stores. Maybe not, but I guess I approach the whole thing differently than most. Nowadays, when I go traveling, I keep my eyes out for any signs of 7-Eleven (and its equivalents). I haven't gotten to the point where I travel for that reason alone. I hope I never do. Anyway, from here you can read about some of the c-stores in my life--I've been to more than I've listed, of course, but there's only so much you can do.
The links to the review pages on the bottom of this page. The rest of the crap is background information, if you like.
These pages get updated as I visit more 7-Elevens or learn new things about them. But, just so you know, it's not all set in stone, so come back and visit once in a while.

If you like me, hate me, want to tell me about your own c-store adventures, or just whatever, you can mail me and we'll see what happens. This also works for sending any corrections you think I should make. Or you can send other suggestions, like maybe there's a cool c-store in my area that I haven't seen yet but should. If it's do-able, I'll see what I can do. I won't accept naked pictures of your cat, though.

Golly

Okay, I suppose this has become the unofficial update area of the page, where I talk about somewhat recent things that have happened. And of course give seasonal greetings as they pertain to 7-Eleven. And I can always find a way to link holidays with 7-Eleven.
So what's new? I went to Australia in January, and then had an Aussie (make sure you pronounce it "ozzie") visit me in March-April, and then I went back there in the last half of June. Busy, eh? So yeah, I remembered to bring the digital camera this time, but I didn't really take too many pictures. We didn't do too much sightseeing, and I didn't really see any new 7-Elevens from last time.. though I suppose I only have the one picture.. but it's a good one.
So, in relation to Australia, YES! they have 7-Elevens there! There are quite a few, and I have a picture of one in Melbourne; it's on Swanston Street, just a couple blocks up from Flinders Street Station. They don't have fountain drinks, but they do have Slurpees, so at least there's that. Sally said some have fountain drinks, but maybe she was thinking of Slurpees. Speaking of Sally, I'll plug her website by letting you know it's the Aussie's view of America. As for my first trip to Australia, I have non 7-Eleven related pictures up on my travel page. And I'll have new ones up there shortly (it's July 5 as I write this, to let you know whether or not I do it shortly).
I had something in here last time about it possibly being a life-changing experience. Well, I'm thinking you can take out the "possibly" now. Along those lines, I have a cute picture of Sally and me as the proverbial happy couple.
And just another caveat, throughout these pages, I mention this woman named Linda. That would be my ex-wife. I figured it's easier to put a blanket statement here than to try and find all references to her from before. So yes, she's my ex-wife, and no, we don't talk anymore, at all. I mean, seriously, for all I know, she could be dead or married again or have kids or live in Denmark. I really don't know. For all I know she could be married with kids in Denmark and dead. Although if she were dead, I would hope someone would at least clue me in on that. But the point is, of course, that if you see her name in here, it could be something I wrote up to 6 years ago, and things have changed since then.
So now, back to the regularly scheduled program.
It seems like so long ago that I was in Norway and Germany. You can read all about my trip on the travel page. But if you came here to read about 7-Elevens, you might want to save that for later. If you don't want to see and read ALL about our trip to Europe, you can see the abbreviated version which fits along with the convenience store theme. (for example: see the Royal Norwegian 7-Eleven!)
And I've since been back to Germany.. but it was in December so it wasn't an especially thirsty time, so I wasn't clamoring for a big gulp much.
I also have some 7-Eleven pictures from Alaska from summer of 1997.
Linda went to her adopted hometown of Chicago and while I stayed home and did homework, she took a picture or two of a 7-Eleven near Wrigley Field. Check it out, dude.

I still have the survey for you, the general sipping public, to take, concerning (what else?) convenience stores and frosty beverages. I had more than 30 responses, but sadly, they all got lost when my hard disk died. So if you did the survey before and care about things like that, you can take it again.

Incidentally, I don't necessarily endorse anything I have written here. This is just a collection of places I've visited. If I label one as my favorite, that doesn't mean it has to be your favorite too. Besides, what are the chances of anyone else out there getting to visit all these places? My opinions change, too. Sometimes a 7-Eleven is really bad, but then they change ownership or just wake up and smell the big bite hotdogs, and it becomes a good (or at least adequate) store. I'm less likely to notice when a good 7-Eleven becomes a bad one, though.
But speaking of endorsements, why not look into Jeff's quest for the 44 oz Jesus?
On October 29th, 1996, I won the (coveted) Velour Award for Funky Sites! When you get a chance, check out those crazy people in Apt. 5 and see what's goin' on. I don't know if that link still works, but at least I won something, and it's made of velour!

7-Eleven! The Tommy LaBree and Bobby Gerardi Axiom of 7-11 Proximity:
The quality of living in a given area is directly proportional to its convenience store per capita ratio;
e.g., El Cajon, with a 7-Eleven on every corner, is the perfect place to live.
The page got too big, so I put the Players in the Game section and Drink Guide on their own page. Go there to see all the people who are involved in my sad story as well as to see what kind of drink sizes are available out there.
I like it when fountains have the diet coke and caffeine free diet coke spouts right next to each other because I can fit my cup under both of them, and fill it up twice as fast. It's like a turbo fill. It also works when they have the peach and raspberry iced tea together. It doesn't work as nicely when they have something like Powerade and Dr. Pepper next to each other, though.
My version of Wheaties might be worth a look.
The music, if you hear it, is called 'ragtune,' and it's just something I found with my midi program. I don't know who should take the credit for it, but I think it's snappy.

These are a bit long.. It's mostly text, though, so it shouldn't be too long to load, just long to read.
So settle down with a nice big drink and start reading!
Mira Mesa --This is a community of San Diego, my home town, where I grew up, went to high school, and live for the moment.

Los Angeles-- We lived here for about 10 months while she got her masters degree from UCLA. It only took 9 months, cuz all they did was hang out at water treatment plants and design pretty fountains.
We moved back after she got a job in Downtown L.A. The area we lived in is called Palms which is somewhere just north of Culver City, a few miles south of UCLA and Westwood. (Or for you freeway conscious, it's about where the 405 and the 10 meet.)
Also, I've recently included info about Long Beach, seeing as I've been a student at (and now graduate of) Cal State Long Beach for a few years now. It's only fair. Studying, midterms, and especially oral presentations make ya thirsty, after all.

Orange County--Mostly Costa Mesa, where Linda and I lived between July 1995 and May 1997. It's the home of South Coast Plaza and Orange Coast College, the Orange County Fair, and several 7-Elevens, almost all of which I've been to. No big whoop.
I'm not a super big fan of Orange County for a variety of reasons, but at least the 7-Elevens around made it more bearable.

Misc. California --Other places in California

Other places --Texas, Alaska, and the International Section (and by international, the following countries are mentioned: Germany, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Canada, Mexico, Taiwan, and Australia

The gallery --if the pictures ever come in

The cups gallery --pictures of my refill bottles.. Amazing, indeed.

The survey! --as if I haven't linked it enough for y'all

I was wondering why no one had signed my guestbook in a while, then I noticed finally that they had changed it and I had to start up a new one. So you can add to the new one but still view the old one with some classic entries on it.

Jeff's 44oz-Jesus page --just another cool 7-Eleven page

7-Eleven --the official 7-Eleven web page. I should have put this link in a long time ago. I hope it works.

I reconsidered the music thing. It's probably horrifically annoying to have music on this page, especially since it's sort of the jumping point and you would come back to it a bunch of times (if you were to read everything, that is). So instead, I'm making the music a link. It's still a nifty song, but now you only hear it if you want to. It's called Ragtune. I hope it works for you. It worked for me.
Somewhere around Counter people have seen this page.
