In the mornings when the wind was calm, the skywriters would show up and do some art of thier own..
Someone had a gas cannon of some sort. He was mobile so I never got a closeup look at him. You would hear a BOOM in the distance and if the wind was calm, a giant smoke ring would float across the sky. As it floated away it would grow in size. Pretty cool.
Some people got into the spirit of things more so than others. At night it was custom to light yourself up with glow sticks or whatever you had. The idea was to make yourself visible so as not to get run over by artcars or bicycles. The main mode of transportation for most people was a bicycle.
This was a swing called "Colossus". Those are real boulders attched. If a few people were strong enough or spirited enough they could get the swing spinning around!
There were many different Theme Camps. This was a dance camp with a bar at one end. The only way they would serve you a drink was if you danced for it. Remember, Burning Man allows NO vending. So all the different bars that served drinks, served them at no charge. Many of them would take alcohol donations so they would not run out. There were Martini bars, socki bars, whiskey bars...you get the idea.
One group put up a life sized Mouse Trap Game. You remember Mouse Trap don't you?? It used bowling balls and actually worked from start to finish. Way too cool!!!!
The "Man" was standing all week with his arms at his side. On Saturday night, after dark, his arms would raise above his head. With a few well placed charges the "Burn" was started and in a huge display of fireworks the Man was burned to the ground. Quite the show!!
On Sunday night, one of the "Temples" that was constructed was also Burned. We left on Sunday Morning, but this is a picture someone else took that stayed till Monday.
As you can see, there was a lot to see and do. These pictures are mainly just things in the open area between 10 and 2 o'clock. You can only imagine what there is to see in all the camps. I don't think that in the weeks time you would be able to take in even a portion of everything going on there. It was quite the experience and one that can only be truly appreciated by being there.
