Instructions for a Deep Fry Turkey
With our turkey setup, you will be able to fry a whole turkey outdoors on your outdoor cooker. It is designed to save oil and to provide a convenient and safe way to lower your turkey into the pot, and to remove it when cooking is complete.
1. To fry a turkey you will need a pot, frying rack, and lifting hook included in our turkey package. The only other items needed to fry your turkey will be a outdoor cooker, Cajun Seasoning, a deep fry thermometer, and enough peanut oil to cover the turkey when it has been lowered into the pot.
Cooking Tip: to determine the amount of oil needed, lower the turkey into the pot and cover with water. Remove the turkey and measure the amount of water. Use the same amount of oil in place of the water when frying the turkey. A 26 TP will hold up to a 16 lb. turkey and a 28 TP will hold up to a 20 lb. turkey.
2. Thaw the turkey completely.Wash the turkey and pat dry with paper towels. Coat the turkey inside and out with Cajun Seasoning. Place the turkey on the frying rack with the legs facing up.
3. Pour the necessary amount of peanut oil into the pot. Use the amount determined in Step 1, so the oil does not overflow.
4. Light your Outdoor Cooker as per instruction for that unit, and heat the oil to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. When the oil is heated to 350 degrees, as determined by a deep fry thermometer, lower the turkey rack and turkey into the hot oil. Wear mitts for protection and lift using the lifting hook. Lower the turkey slowly. Be careful not to splash the hot oil.
5. Fry about 3 1/2 minutes per pound of turkey, keeping the temperature at 350 degrees
6. When the calculated time has passed, lift the turkey rack from the pot using the lifting hook and protective mitts. Two hands will fit on the hook for lifting.
7. Place the turkey carefully on a pan or paper to drain and cool. check the thigh joint. If it appears to be well cooked, the turkey is ready.
