One day, a fly was buzzing around, flying through the trees and bushes. As it was flying, it stopped to rest upon a branch. As chance would have it, a caterpillar happened along, and seeing the fly, smiled and said, "good day to you ". The fly, having never been spoken to in such a manner, was startled, at first, but replied in kind. The caterpillar was looking for a leaf, and asked the fly for help. The fly, admiring the long sleek body and many long legs of the caterpillar, agreed. The fly spent the rest of the day with the caterpillar. The following day had also brought these two together. As time passed on, the fly and the caterpillar spent their days together, then one day, the caterpillar began weaving it's cocoon. |
The fly, fearful of losing its love, pleaded for the caterpillar to stop. The fly in its despair, even tried to dismantle the cocoon. The caterpillar could not stop, and slowly repaired the damage. "I don't know why I need to do this", the caterpillar explained, "but I must complete it." Just before finishing, the caterpillar came out of the cocoon and kissed the fly, saying "I don't understand this either, but I must go." Crawling back into the cocoon, and sealing it closed. The fly, in its despair and fury, flew off. |
Every day, the fly would visit the cocoon. As we all know, flies are short lived. As the fly was ready to pass on, it came back to the cocoon, as this would become its final resting place. At that moment, the caterpillar emerged from the cocoon, seeing the motionless fly, held it in its arms. The fly, looking up and seeing the caterpillar, smiled and said in its dying breath, "you've come back to me." The caterpillar, sadden by the flies condition, replied, "I never left you." . |
