The Shell

The other evening, I was sitting outside, watching the moon and the stars slowly make their way across the sky. I happen to notice a large garden snail crossing the garden stone path. As the snail made its way to the other side, I admired its shell. A strong outer casing, to protect it from the elements and predators that it mite happen upon. As it so would happen, a stray cat would appear. The cat, hungry from a night of adventuring, decided to make a meal of the snail. The snail had crossed the stone path and was about to enter the grass when the cat attacked. The cat, pounced upon the snail, biting and scratching the shell. The snail defended its shell, as best it could. But knowing it would be fruitless to continue, escaped, out of its shell and into the grass. As I ponder this, it had occurred to me that, with humans, a shell is important. It protects us from the elements we are forced to face each and every day. But a wise person knows when to abandon their shell. A shell can always be reforged
