You are surfing across the Internet and you come across a site full of synthesized jazz. A song auto-plays, and almost instinctively you say to yourself, "Oh no, not another bad midi!" But during the frantic search for the stop button, you hear the song, and begin to get into it. You remark to yourself how great this song really is and the search for a stop button ends as you discover the song title: "'S Cold in Here - Garret Thomson." Garret Thomson grew up with jazz. His father owned a large selection of jazz albums through which Garret was exposed to the Genre, and received musical inspiration through Chick Corea's "Feathers" album, and such songs as "Birdland" by Josef Zawinul. He became a musician himself at age 5, learning the first of many instruments, the piano. Garret Thomson is currently a 21 year old Canadian, and an Electrical Engineer at the University of Waterloo (Yes, he is an engineer). He play quite a wide variety of instruments from Drums to the Guitar, sax to even the Bassoon (Though he hates the Bassoon). The Tenor Sax is his favorite. He feels most comfortable with it, and finds it easiest for improvisation. He's received awards such as Top Jazz Player in his high school, and he has even written music in computer games. Garret has been writing midi since the age of 16 and is growing a list of great songs. Download them and check them out, especially his two favorites, "Untie Me", and "'S Cold in Here", however as with all the midis on this site, they are for non-commercial use only. |
