Welcome to Adam's Cliff of Goddesses and Gods where I hold all of the information pertaining to the Greek/Roman gods and Goddesses that are mentioned within our coven and many more that people might not know about. There also may be artwork on this page if anyone knows of anything good to put on. If you have any information that pertains to my cliff, please e-mail it to me. Thank you very much.
The Muses-The Muses were all females, and they were sources of inspiration in the arts. In most myths there were nine of them, but in some other myths there either three or one (which was Scheiz. he...he). |
Another Cretan goddess who retained prominence in later times was Eileithyia, whose worship centered on caves. Eileithyia, or Eleutheria, as she is sometimes called, eventually served the Olympian deities as divine midwife. On Crete, she tended to the needs of purely human woman. Her caves were filled with votice objects and were probably used as havens for women about to give birth. Eileithyia's rough form is carved into the rocks, and pillar-like stalagmites bearing her image may have been clutched by women for support as they gave birth within her sacred enclosure. At least two of Eileithyia's birth caves still exist, and one can be visited near Heraklion. Though once remote, modern civilization has intruded to within a few feet of the entrance. It's not a well-visited site, and a barred doorway keeps the site safe from the profane. Like most goddesses, Eileithyia is only reached at the end of a maze of initiation. Access to the cave is controlled by a keykeeper living nearby, who must be found by persistent questioning. She does not reveal herself easily to the casual seeker, but for those seeing aid in either physical birth or spiritual rebirth, she will always be in attendance.
