"Gorky was moved to tears, and wept on Myakovsky's shoulder."
Myakovsky sensed that he was becoming a master of his art.
Being able to cover any topic, especially a revolutionary one.
He was in the throes of writing his poem, A Cloud in Trousers.
He met Maxim Gorky, and read to him the completed passages
of the poem. Gorky was moved to tears, and wept on Myakovsky's
shoulder. Which made Myakovsky feel very proud.
Gorky's wife, Maria, was to write in her memoirs:
My husband admired Myakovsky. Although he was a bit concerned
about the strident quality of his poetry. On one occasion he
told Myakovsky, "Imagine you went out at dawn, and started to
shout as loudly as you could.
Would you be able to keep that up all day?"

". . . they would tell him that he should not write about love."
I am a poet! Sometimes I write about other things, but only for the sake of creating poetry.

Myakovsky and his closest friend Lelia
Are you sacred, Helen?
I'm an even candidate for both the King of the Galaxy and for a convict.
If I'm a King, I'll order my people
To draw your face on my gold coins.
If I'm a convict in the far North
I'll make an inscription of your name on my chain
And cover it with kisses in the darkness of exile.
She is ill, she is bedridden.
Hurry or it'll be too late.
Perhaps one day she will go for a walk in the garden.
She used to be very fond of animals.
She is beautiful, look at these pictures.
Perhaps she will be resurrected.
Please resurrect her for my sake.
I was waiting on her as a poet.
Resurrect me because I want to live my life
Until the very end.
-- Myakovsky
Myakovsky committed suicide in 1931, at age 37.
"As a teenager he soon realized that the powers above approved of those who simply copied the works of others, and condemned those who showed originality, and independence.
Myakovsky's revolutionary instincts placed him firmly in the second category."
"It's become a truism to say that society no longer expresses a consensus (whether reactionary or liberatory), but that a false
consensus is expressed for society; let's call this false consensus "the Totality." The Totality isolates individuals & renders them powerless by offering only illusory modes of social expression, modes which
seem to promise liberation or self-fulfillment but in fact end by producing yet more mediation & alienation. The Totality is produced through mediation &
alienation, which attempt to subsume or absorb all creative energies for the Totality.
Myakovsky killed himself when he
realized this; perhaps we are made of sterner stuff, perhaps not."
