This is a true story told to me by Nick Polites an Australian New Orleans Jazz legend on the clarinet.

Some years ago Nick was in New Orleans and had the pleasure of seeing Jack Teagarden live. Towards the end of the gig (in a club) the guys were playing Stardust sans head and beautifully. An audience member came up to the stage at the end of the improvisation and said " Mr Teagarden, that was absolutely beautiful while I was dancing with my wife she was telling me how much it reminded her of her favorite song Stardust and I was wondering if I could request you to play it." Jack Teagarden smiled at the piano player and did play it dead straight with verse and an obligato chorus in the same key as he had just done the improv. upon it.

Incredibly enough the same guy came up to the stage after Stardust and asked if he could play the other song again which he did .....
