clubs

Vertigo (was Cooter's)

University Plaza 751-2642 thee "gothic/industrial" night. (Mondays) Usually it's just a dj playing music, but bands have played. The DJ posts playlists from Mondays to the newsgroup rec.music.industrial (Deja News). There haven't been any recent postings, but the DJ plans to start again soon. And an official Vertigo website is rumored to be in the works.
A few pictures I took there.
After hours several people have been going to UDF (pronounced uh-dh-ph)on Clifton Ave for an ice cream whatever or to Skyline on Ludlow.

Vertigo webring

The Warehouse

1313 Vine St 684-9313 Another club w/a goth-type night, on Wednesdays - although lately, it's been advertised as 80s and now Fridays.
They also have had bands play. There are often jewelry and music vendors and tarot readers. (It was supposed to be Cincinnati's answer to NY clubs).
The Warehouse has celebrated it's 8th year!!! Some friends and I still swear it was better before the Warehouse got its liquor license....
[the link doesnt have much info about the club, but it does have pictures of people at the club]

concert places

Sudsy Malone's

2626 Vine St 751-2300 Cosy little bar w/a laundrymat in the back. Has various "alternative" shows nightly. [bands usually play 10pm -- 2am]. Christian Death/Electric Hellfire Club played here. Seating is a bleacher-like structure and sometimes they put out little tables.

Bogart's

2621 Vine St 872-8801 Small concert hall. Holds 1100. Good place to see bands (because of the size), but they could treat the customers a little better, and rumor has it that they charge the bands too much; it's the only small All Ages venue. Showtime is early -- doors at 7, show at 8, everyone kicked out by 11. Since this is considered a concert hall (and not a bar, although it has one) it is an all-ages venue. (Peter Murphy, Lords of Acid, KMFDM, The Damned, GWAR played here)

Top Cat's/Fat Cat's

2820 Vine St 281-2005 Small bar that has local bands almost nightly. (Stop the Car; The Impotent Sea Snakes weren't allowed to play on Halloween). Room to sit, room to breathe, room to dance, and an outdoor area for stargazing.

S.O.B. Warehouse (it stands for Southern Ohio Beef)

John St Small size, but it's cold (it used to be a real warehouse). Babylonian Tiles played here.

Caddy's .......alas Caddy's is no more.....thank you to Cincinnati's professional sports teams.

230 W Pete Rose Way 721-3636 A bar made up of 5 parts. Bands play in the "Garage." Type-O Negative played here. Moderate size.

Annie's

4343 Kellogg Ave 321-0220 Bar that usually has metal and country bands with disco on the weekends. Moderate size, but way out of the way. Alien Sex Fiend, Front Line Assembly, Spahn Ranch and Swithchblade Symphony (of course) have played here.

FirStar Center (was the Crown was the Coleseum)

Big.....the Cure played here.

Southgate House

Newport
Babylonian Tiles played here.

Camelot

I hate this store....well, I only visit the one in Tower Place. Everytime I go in, everything's in a different place and more expensive. There is no "alternative" section and the cassettes are rapidly disappearing.

*If you are planning to book a band here, I suggest that you book gothic/industrial bands for nights other than Mondays, or if the day must be Monday, for an early time, since Monday is the main gothic/industrial night at a local club.

Cincinnati is ever so slightly conservative. If you plan to get naked, build a fire, or display weapons during your show, have a chat with the people at your venue first. Cincinnati police will not hesitate to arrest you.

In case you didn't know, the area code for Cincinnati is 513. For Northern Kentucky, it's 859. Cities close by: 2hrs or less -- Dayton, Columbus, Indianapolis (IN), Lexington (KY), Louisville (KY); 3hrs -- Huntington (WV); 4hrs -- Cleveland --- well actually all of Ohio, Evansville (IN), Detroit (MI); 5 hrs -- Pittsburgh (PA); 6hrs -- Chicago (IL), Nashville (TN), St Louis (MO), all of Indiana and Kentucky.
