Welcome to the
Magic City!!

Vulcan

Birmingham got the name "Magic City" because of its rapid growth in the 1800's. This is the place I grew up and lived for most of my life. The weather is awesome, except in the middle of summer when it reaches the 100 degree mark and the air doesn't move. There are so many mountains there that we don't get too much wind, so if you're looking to cool off try making a 4 hour trip to Gulf Shores or visiting one of the many lakes.

There are lots of great things to do in Birmingham. It depends on the time of year you go, like anywhere else I s'pose. If you plan on visiting this awesome city, here's a list of some fun things to do and visit:

City Stages A 3-day affair in June with lots of big-time bands, food, dancing... just a big party I guess you'd say.
The McWane Center A new science center highly touted for its IMAX® Dome Theater and hands-on exhibits.
The Birmingham Barons Birmingham's own Class AA Minor League baseball team. (This is the one Michael Jordan used to play for!
Visionland Birmingham's new amusement park. Check out the Rampage, it has a 120' high roller coaster!
The Birmingham Race Course I love greyhound racing! One day I'm gonna hit it big here, and I guess I'll retire to the beach drinking margaritas and listening to Jimmy Buffet. *dreaming of that day*
The Botanical Gardens This is where I got married!
The Galleria This place is a huge shopping mall with almost every store imaginable. If you gotta shop, go here. You won't need to go anywhere else.
Vulcan Park A large statue representing Vulcan, the Roman god of fire and forge. It sits on Red Mountain overlooking the city of Birmingham
The Birmingham Zoo I could spend hours here!
Sloss Furnaces This place is for the site seers and historian types. It's an old furnace where pig iron was made and is now a National Landmark. There are many events throughout the year held here. It looks pretty spooky at night.
John Carroll High School Sorry, I couldn't leave this one out! I enjoyed 4 great years of high school here and go back to visit whenever possible. The school has recently moved, but the spirit is still the same. GO CAVS!
The Comedy Club One of the best comedy clubs in the country! Check out their site to see who's appearing in the near future.
