In Loving Memory

Rosemary Clooney

"Girl Singer"

Rosemary Clooney was born on May 23, 1928 in Maysville, Kentucky and departed this life on June 29, 2002, after a battle with lung cancer.  She grew up poor, enduring a difficult childhood.  It was when herself and her sister, Betty, won a singing contest at a Cincinnati radio station in 1945 that her career began.  Rosemary performed with many of the top stars of the era.  She shared the mike with Bing Crosby on radio for CBS.  She tried her hand at radio, television, and films with success in each area.  Rosemary starred with Crosby in "White Christmas" in 1954 to great acclaim.  Her rendition of Berlin's "Love, You Didn't Do Right By Me" was one of the highlights of the film.

Her personal life took a turn for the worse in the late 60's as she turned to prescription drugs and sleep aids.  She suffered a mental breakdown that led to hospitalization after the assassination of her close friend Bobby Kennedy.  After working very little for several years, Bing Crosby invited her to join his 50th Anniversary tour.  The concerts were instrumental in getting her career back on track.

After a life of ups and downs, both personal and career-wise, Clooney maintained her poise and her humor.  She will be missed tremendously.
